Picnicing in Central Park tonight with another family and watching Madagascar. They bring wine, I bring food, we both bring our kids.

Menu:
Campari tomatoes with fresh mozz, basil, EVO, Maldon sea salt and cracked pepper

Baby Arugula Salad with sweet italian peppers, feta, and an anchovie lemon shallot vinaigrette

EVO whipped ricotta with black pepper crackers

Various stuff like olives, peppadew peppers, cornichons, marinated shrooms, grilled artichoke hearts

Spanish Blue Cheese - Valdeon, one of the great blues, and sliced baguette

Cherries

Im pretty excited! Even though I just watched Madagascar last week.

Very nice and glad to see you take your picnicing seriously. We have been really getting into picnicing lately and have been thinking about recipes and menus to take on picnics.

It is amazing how you re-discover some things once you have kids.

Tell me about it.

Throw in some alcohol of some sort, and you got a perfect picnic.

I think you and I have been going to the same picnics. If you can't pronounce it, you don't bring it.

Everyone can pronounce potato salad, even if not everyone can spell it.

You can pronouce champaign, but even that is borderline on my picnic.

I'd rather drink beer.

Speaking of Tub O'Macaroni salad. Spouts makes theirs fresh and it takes so authentic to the lesser quality grocery store brand.

Love it!

Are you kidding?!?! That menu sounds awesome to me!Cold Fried Chicken is one of my faves. but Im all stuck up and would have to make mine from scratch, which means 24 hours of marinade, cooking and then sitting overnight in the fridge. Too much work for a last minute picnic. We aint so different. I bet you woulda liked my menu, too.

THE FOOSA ARE ATTACKING!

BTW, does anyone else (or is this just me) find thhat store bought macaroni salad, almostr by rule, has a slightly metallic finish to it? I love macaroni, I love mayo and I love all the stufff that goes into mac slad, but when I make my own, it doesnt have that finish and almost every other store made and/or bought brand does. Anyone else ever taste that?

And Linder, what didnt you recognize on that menu? I thought it was pretty basic. It was all classic stuff. Nothing goes like tomato basil mozzarella...

That metallic finish happens when the mayo sits exposed to the air for awhile.

:lmao:  I said your stuff sounds good--just none of it (outside of cherries) would be anything I'd ever make. Picnic or otherwise.

I'm guessing you meant EVOO whipped ricotta? I know what ricotta is, so I can figure it out, just never heard of it before. I'm a simple gal, and I'm cool with that.
