Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny Gaudreau's widow, gave birth to their son months after NHL star's death

It still feels surreal that Johnny Gaudreau is no longer with us after the 31-year-old forward died in an accident last year while biking with his brother.

Yes, Gaudreau's NHL career was on the rise and he seemed to have a lot left to give the game. His death should never have happened. But the most tragic part about Gaudreau's death was that his wife, Meredith, was expecting. She announced her pregnancy at Gaudreau's funeral, adding another incredibly sad layer to what was already an incredibly sad story.

But, today, there's good news to share. Meredith Gaudreau announced the birth of her beautiful baby boy, Carter Michael Gaudreau — he has the same middle name as his dad.

What a bittersweet moment. It's heartbreaking to know that Johnny Gaudreau will never meet his son. But we can take solace in the fact that he's arrived safely, the family is well and they'll get to spend their lives together.
