Plot Summary: Michael Clayton (George Clooney) is an in-house "fixer" at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York. A former criminal prosecutor, Clayton takes care of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen's dirtiest work at the behest of the firm's co-founder Marty Bach (Sydney Pollack). Though burned out and hardly content with his job as a fixer, his divorce, a failed business venture and mounting debt have left Clayton inextricably tied to the firm. At U/North, meanwhile, the career of litigator Karen Crowder (Tilda Swinton) rests on the multi-million dollar settlement of a class action suit that Clayton's firm is leading to a seemingly successful conclusion. But when Kenner Bach's brilliant and guilt-ridden attorney Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson) sabotages the U/North case, Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career and his life.

The wife and I thought it was slow also. Usually I really dig these movies and I expected great things going in.

Really, what did Tom Wilkinson do to earn a Supporting actor nod?

George is his usual self and Tilda was very good.

All in all.... I will remember it, but not have a reason to re-watch it.

What an overhyped snooze fest.

Predicatable. Boring. Performances weren't great.

Just a terrible movie IMO.

:biglaugh:

Okay, I will take that is was boring for some people, because it was a slow-paced film...but saying the performances weren't great is just ridiculous...

I feel like I've seen that George Clooney in every single film he's been in. (aside from the Ocean flicks).

Wilkinson's performance was typical performance for him as well.

And Tilda Swinton? Give her wings and she could've been her character from Constantine.

A good performance to me is when an actor steps away from the guy he always is.

Tilda Swinton won Best Actress :)

Anyways...I understand what you mean, but there aren't always roles in which someone can totally change what they look like, AKA, Daniel Day Lewis in There Will be Blood.

It seems pretty short-sighted to say actors don't give a good performance unless they do something different...each character is different and Clooney had to act a bit more troubled in this than normal.

Swinton was great and Wilkinson always does good.

I don't think either Swinton or Wilkinson were in enough scenes to merit Oscars.

Well, there were some tense scenes for sure... And Tilda (IMO) made most of them. In the bar with Clooney, and then at the end when she collapses to the floor when Clooney is yelling at her.

Wilkinson, to me, had no business getting a supporting actor nod. In fact, it was laughable. Even during the Oscars, his "I am sheeva the god of death" scene was more humorous then riveting.

I am glad he lost, but it was nothing near what I expect of an Oscar worthy performance.

Recently watched it. I liked it, but I'm a bit surprised at how much praise it received. Definitely the weakest of the Best Picture Noms.

I thought it was excellent. Tom Wilkinson definitely deserved his nomination.

Perhaps a bit over-hyped, but very tense and enjoyable.

Yawn. I really didnt see one performance in there that blew me away. It was fine, but nothing more than a single watch, for sure. Nothing remarkable about it.
