According to the Chicago Tribune, Michael Jordan is moving to Phoenix where his mother lives and where he can golf.

"The latest leaguewide rumor has the Suns cutting payroll for an eventual sale..."

The link doesn't work.

MJ's track record in Washington scares me a little but if it helps getting Kobe?

Maybe as a partner that would be pretty good deal. JC has been talking about getting a partner involved.

MJ is still a big icon, it would make the Phoenix Suns more attractive maybe.

Plus MJ could get Phil here and then Kobe and we could run the triangle.

I find this very hard to believe. There are MANY people in the NBA, and in all sports, that have homes in Phoenix. Barkley has a home in Phoenix, doesn't mean he's going to buy the team.

Difference.

Jordan has been trying to buy a team before. Barkley didn't.

MJ almost bought the Milwaukee Bucks after last years draft.

A few things.

A) Colangelo wants a partner; he doesn't want to sell the team.
B) Jordan wants to run things, not just be a partial owner.
C) Do you really think Kobe wants to be under Jordan's shadow?
D) Does anyone really think having Jordan around would be a good thing?

i think that it is important to remember that JC has said that he would sale only to a partner and that he would retain control of the team. other then that i think that jordan would like the team, unlike washington and brown no one questions where amare likes to work.

Oh geez, if this happened I see a trend...

1st Greztky owns the Coyotes

2nd Jordan owns the Suns

then

3rd Jerry Rice buys the Cardinals

and Barry Bonds buys the DBacks

He doesn't? Thats news to me. He doesn't own them out right, but he owns a share of the Coyotes.

Gretzky is like VP of Operations or something.

Ellman owns the majority of the team but Gretzky does own a portion of the Coyotes (10% of the franchise I think)

Whatever.

I'm not sure what the incentive for Jordan would be to play second fiddle to the Colangelos. MJ did not really cover himself in glory in his personnel moves in Washington so it is unlikely BC is going to lose his job.

It helps to bring Kobe Bryant or another superstar to the Valley and Jordan doesn't have any control over the team itself I'm all for it. Of course I think MJ is looking for a team where he has control over the roster, coaching, etc..

It wouldn't be too bad if Jordan became something like Co-GM or Co-President.

And eventually when Jerry retires takes over the buisness.

Jordan on the Suns would be pretty good I imagine. Imagine you are a FA and Michael Jordan calls you and says he wants you to come to Phoenix.

The full quote from that article
MJ watch: He's still not back, but Magic Chairman Rich DeVos told the Orlando Sentinel Michael Jordan's "people" contacted the team about a purchase.

"Yes, we heard from Michael indirectly," DeVos said. "He was very interested, but Michael didn't want to put his own money into it. He never does. Michael just wants to buy things with his name. I guess he was talking about a group he could have put together."

The latest leaguewide rumor has the Suns cutting payroll for an eventual sale and Jordan moving in where his mother now lives -- and where there's very good golf.

However the same article says that the Clippers and Spurs are the frontrunners for Kobe.

And why, exactly, would this work better than it did in Washington?

Jordan was a terrific player, but so far he has been a lousy executive. No thank you.

Honestly, I don't think he was a horrible Exec. Once he became a player, his personel moves became more about winning now then later. That was his biggest problem. He wanted to win for himself, no better the franchise over the long run.

However, I don't think you can take away credit for his first year as team president. If you remember, he pulled off the first major salary dump since the latest CBA. Rod Strickland, Juwan Howard and Mitch Richmond were all gone within a year.

The Kwame Brown drafting is seen as a bust, but I think he still gets 1 more year to prove himself. And it isn't like he passed on a ton of sure things to get Brown either. Pau Gasol was an unknown at the time, and RJ is the only other lottery pick that has panned out significantly better than Kwame. (I love JJ, but his inconsistancies do not make him significantly better)

With that said, I am pretty indiferent on him joining the owner's. Of course, being realistic, it will not happen. Michael wants majority control, but so does JC.

Also, he never really got the shot to see what his name could bring in terms of FAs. Remember, he engineered that 8 or so millioon in cap room for last summer, only to be kicked to the curb before getting a chance to use it.

Mark Curtis on Channel 12 here in the valley just said that the rumor is not true. He said he talked to Jerry Colangelo, and there is absolutely nothing to it. Surprise, surprise.

Was this article written by Sam Smith?
