based on stats by CBS Sportsline. Since the Suns have noone in the top thirty at center, is there any way we could get rid of Penny and/or Googs and get this guy. I admit he's not the best, but then our starting five would be rated, by position:

Marbury #2 PG
Joe Johnson #29 SG
Marion #2 SF
Stoudamire #15 PF
Olowokandi #14 C

We kick JJ in the A$$ to get his rating up, or let Penny bring that spot up to par, and we have one heck of a starting five! One can only dream!!!

If the Suns wanted to use their full mid-level exemption they could probably sign either Mourning, Olowakandi, Brad Miller, Nesterovic or Keon Clark.

Olowakandi had loser written all over him and Nesterovic is too much like the centers Phoenix had for years. Keon I would have taken last year but he faded down the stretch for Sac this last year. I'd take Brad Miller on a multiyear deal because he's a youngish player and a good journeyman center. Mourning is old and high risk but if the only goal was to give the team the best shot at winning it all next year he might be worth it. With FJ running the show we seem to need Penny on the floor to make the offense work at all and Penny may not be able to contribute much beyond one year, which is an argument for taking the high risk approach to next season.

Kandi, Miller, and possibly even Nesterovic are going to get more than that mid-level exception.

How many teams will be under the cap? I suppose some team that is way under the cap could sign one of these as their second FA--after they sign a max player.
