Suns get a 2nd round pick and a TPE.

Not sure if the 2nd rounder is conditional, I hope it is not because Toronto will be in the bottom 10 and the pick should be between 30-40.

A response to Shannon Brown. The TPE is meaningless. Some good players will be taken in the second round in this years draft.

Picks, picks. That is what we need. Thus team is not going to sign quality fa's.

To get anything for Pietrus is a plus and not take back a contract. The second round pick would be icing on the cake if it has any value. I'm wondering if this will free up money for the Suns.

Slinslin, do you have a link?

Yeah, do you have a link, slin?

Honestly, I don't understand why Toronto does it. Do they need to reach the salary floor or something? But if that's true, it opens up a lot of possibilities for the Suns.

1) They simply wanted to save some more money this season and get a pick for next year's draft, which is supposed to be really good.

2) They intend to renounce Brooks's rights and have enough cap space to make a better one-year offer to Hill while keeping their cap space for next year.

3) They know Hill isn't staying and intend to renounce Brooks's rights in order to go after someone else this year.

There are probably more possibilities I didn't think of. Who knows?

IMO, Pietrus' contract was deadweight. It would be great if another team takes him.

It is confirmed conditional 2nd round pick for us and TPE.

Suns out
- Brooks
- Carter
- Pietrus
- (Hill?)

Suns in
- Telfair
- Brown
- Morris

Safe to say this is the season we should definitely tank it.

Obviously the Suns are trying to shed salary. However, who will be left? DW? Seriously, what is the point of freeing up all the salary if your going to use it on a bunch of second tier guys?

Oh...wait.....this is the Suns.....it's all about fielding a "fun" team.

Pietrus did not want to play in Phoenix per off season remarks. Also he was just a chucker when shooting. This is addition by subtraction.

??

The Suns did not want Pietrus and he did not want to be here. We save money this year but it makes no difference to us this year.

Next year we will throw some big offers to the restricted FA and dare other teams to match it.

Which part did you not understand? I didn't say anything about this year. I said the Suns are shedding salary. Obviously for next year.

My point still stands.....what can the Suns get in FA with all this extra cash but a bunch of second tier players? The Suns are probably going to have to over pay even those player to try and get them here.

The Suns are shooting for another "entertaining" team. There is no comittment here to winning a title.....just generate enough wins to create revenue.

Pietrus was not a good fit in Phoenix. Also he was unhappy and played like it. I'm always down on Sarver for saving money in the wrong places but in this case, why keep a bad contract. Kudos for this trade. Pietrus was not going to help the Suns win a title.

I had no issues with the trade at all. I was just questioning in the long run what any of this really does for the Suns if players don't want to play here.

I won't miss his turn around 23 foot fadeway jumpshot that never went in.

Pietrus would have expired next year anyway. The Suns did not shed anything with this trade for next year. Nothing has changed for next year so far.

They did likely get an early second rounder in a good draft. In this type of draft, there are always good productive players that drop.

True but the Suns are clearly shedding salary by getting rid of him to clear room for Brown who is only going to be here for a year as well. I was speaking more in general terms. The Suns are trying to position themselves for next season and trying to avoid any scenarios in which they might have to extend anybody that would chew up cap space.

Again, what major FA is going to come here? Let's face it, the Suns are going to have to pull off a trade or draft their next franchise player.

Umm yes but there will not be any teams that are more attractive than the Suns in next years market with major capspace.

In the end players will go where they get paid the most.

In 2012 besides Deron, Paul and Dwight you still have all these restricted guys like Rose, Westbrook, Gordon, Love, Mayo, Ibaka, Galinari, Brook Lopez, Anthony Randolph, Beasley, Hibbert..

Now the Bulls will match any offer for Rose. But I think none of the other players is a max player and there teams will have to make a decision if they match a sizable offer.

The Suns could put in max money offers for Westbrook and Gordon for instance.

Per Paul Calvisi twitter, the Suns will trade cash and Pietrus to Toronto for a second round pick. I hope this means the Suns will get Toronto's second round pick in 2012.
