Ok, lets get this out in the open. Denny talked about the "rules" last week, while people were rolling thier eyes. After the game Denny wouldn't talk. Clancy Pendergast wouldn't reveal the "rules" this morning either, Jurecki asked if other defensive coordinators were calling him Monday morning ... Clancy said some had left him messages, but he didn't return the calls.
Just from watching the game, and hearing the post game comments, what do YOU perceive the Michael Vick rules to be?
Here's my opinion:
Win the battle on first down. Keep 2nd, and 3rd down long yardage.
Keep contain on the edges.
Keep gap control. (Clancy said one of our linemen got cut out of his gap on the long run by Dunn, and we lost the edge on Vick's one big run.)
Force Michael Vick to beat you playing quarterback. Make him throw it. He hasn't proven that he can do it. His completion percentage isn't that great, and if you consider that every time he tries to run would have been an incompletion, his accuracy would look even worse.
He's one heck of an athelete, but watching him throw passes, it looks to me like he's trying to "hit" his receivers, like he's shooting them. BOOM, the ball hits a receiver, then falls to the ground, not even close to being a completed pass. Until he can play pitch AND catch with someone, I'd go ahead and force him to throw the ball.
