Despite being a gamer at the college level, former Michigan football safety Makari Paige wasn't highly thought of by NFL personnel. He wasn't even listed on ESPN's board of draftable players.

Yet, in the biggest games, Paige showed out.

Paige made some big plays in the national championship game against Washington, but perhaps his biggest came this past year, after he was moved from safety to nickel, when he intercepted Ohio State quarterback Will Howard as the Buckeyes were deep in Michigan territory. It was his second pick against OSU in his career. He also had the hit on Howard that essentially changed the course of the game, late in the second quarter.

The West Bloomfield (Mich.) product didn't hear his name called over the weekend, but he is getting an opportunity. Per Jordan Schultz, Paige has signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants.

Paige's West Bloomfield and Michigan teammate Donovan Edwards signed as an undrafted free agent with the other New York team, the Jets, on Saturday following the draft.

A former four-star recruit, Paige got to see the field in his first year, when he came aboard in 2020. But it wasn't until 2022 that he started to come on. He was dependable, essentially without issue, but he inexplicably struggled at the start of the 2024 season until the move to nickel late in the year.

Soft-spoken, Paige was known as a lead-by-example type within Schembechler Hall. He very well could have a productive NFL career, despite not being drafted.
