This was his dream job so I don't think he is trying to get fired. However, some of his decisions are definitely head scratching. My guess is a bunch of changes in offseason after unloading Durant and he is trying to evaluate who keeps a roster spot after this year.I've complained about Bud's "feel" for the lineups/rotations lately. A lot of head scratching for me, others as well.
I'm seriously wondering if he's trying to get fired, or is there some directive to gain some analytical data. I wonder about analytics because last year, imo, we saw the same thing happen with Vogel before the trade deadline. This year is seems the mix/mash of lineups is happening after the trade deadline.

What I don't get is why Dunn isn't getting more time.My guess is Bud has pulled out all the stops and will play anyone that gives the Suns a chance at winning. I think this is why we are seeing Bol Bol and Ty Ty Washington get minutes, among others.
This doesn't mean the Suns aren't looking towards the future at the same time.
I really don't think that is the goal any longer. The guys on the radio indicated that the Ishbia and the front office knows this isn't a winning team. That would indicate to me this isn't about winning. When they couldn't pull the deal off for Butler sounded like everything changed. My guess is Bud has pulled out all the stops and will play anyone that gives the Suns a chance at winning. That is exactly where this team is. The Durant and Beal trades failed. Ishbia failed. No point in BSing around about it.IMO, it's an admittance of failure.
It should but it's not always the case. I can name many times teams traded away most of their team or for assets and spent part of the season evaluating their roster. The Suns are in a weird predicament where they couldn't. They did stand pat by making no moves at the deadline. I would rather know the office recognizes that that pretend otherwise.Winning should always be the goal, especially when the Suns don't own the rights to their draft picks.
There have been some big men available that the Suns should have gone after. Maybe they would have helped, maybe not, but standing pat is not an option. IMO, it's an admittance of failure.

I don't think evaluating your roster is quitting though. Game time play is a better evaluation than all the off season camps put together. If there are going to be a ton of changes the Suns have to know what they are going to do with every roster spot. When the team was still thinking they could compete for a title the rotations are always tighter. Now they have more ability to evaluate IMO.I'm not a fan of quitting, especially when there is nothing to be gained.
However, I believe in putting players on the court who want to win. I'm glad the Suns are finally exploring their bench. IMO, playing players that are hungry is the right decision. It's refreshing to see team basketball for a change.
Why did it take Bud so long to realize Bol Bol, Washington and Gillespie could contribute?

I really don't think they had the luxury to do it until now (not getting the Butler trade done). It's not like playing those guys would have put the team back on a title contending track. Most really good teams have a short rotation. That's all I am saying.I'm not saying evaluating bench players and two-way players is quitting. Actually I'm saying the opposite.
I want to see players who give the team an opportunity to win.
If anything, Bud waited too long to go to his bench and two-way players. For example, adding Nick Richards was a step in the right direction as well.
If the Suns are going to lose, I want to see them play hard and play team basketball. Isolation basketball has gotten old and boring.

If there is one saving grace to the rest of this dismal season it's seeing more of the young guys play.

I think Bud knows what he has in Dunn and Oso. Trying to see if Bol Bol is worth keeping because we lack size so badly. Everyone else, he seems to have given up on a bunch of guys at the end of the bench now. Monte Morris has just plain disappeared from any minutes. Aside from TyTy, our G League team is good for G League, but not for bringing guys up to play.He has 2 all-star level players, a couple more guys who are borderline starter, high rotation guys, then a whole bunch of dudes that wouldn't see the court on any other contender.
I think he is just desperate to find something that works but almost everyone beyond our top few guys is severely deficient on one end or the other.
