Some months ago, I predicted that the Philadelphia-Tampa Bay World Series would be a rank ratings disaster akin to the Chevy Chase Show.

It went on to become the lowest rated World Series in history. I was right.
For once.

Now comes the oddest Super Bowl ever: the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Yuck.

Never thought I'd say this, but this Super Bowl will be dreadful.

People will watch the Super Bowl regardless of who is playing. It's practically a national holiday. This guy is a *******.

The Super Bowl is more than just the game and this writer has no clue. A seven game baseball series of two what ever teams or "THE FREAKIN' SUPER BOWL". Most will still watch even if they are not fans.

Yeah, who cares what this guy thinks. There's 30 other teams and fans of 30other teams who would love to be in a dreadfully lowrated Superbowl.

The Cards are there and are going to win it all!

Chill out, only posted it because he was stupid enough to allow feedback on his clearly ridiculous story.

That's great. That means we'll be flying under the radar again next year when we make it back-to-back championships.

Heh, there has been a few super bowls I didn't watch because I hated both teams and didn't care who won.

I really couldn't care any less if I were the only one watching, it still would be sweet :)

I heard that during the NFC Championship game Phoenix's 911 call volume dropped significantly as the game progressed and next to nothing during the 4th quarter.

Just to correlate, during the 1993 NBA Championship deciding game I glanced outside during the game and there wasn't a single car on the roads. Literally a ghost town on very heavily travelled roads. So this city is going to be glued to their TV's baby!

First, why would football fans care what the ratings are? You enjoy watching football - or any other programming - or you don't. I don't watch (or not watch) something because the ratings are high (or low.)

Second, what is the writer trying to suggest - that the NFL would be better off if the same two or three teams appeared in the championship game every year? That might have been okay when it was a 12 team league, but not now when there are 32 teams.

A large part of why the NFL is so successful is because of the league's parity and the ability of teams to quickly rebuild. Before free agency and the salary cap, it would take nearly a decade for a bad franchise to rebuild its team in to a contender. How would having half the fans in the league know their team has zero shot of the playoffs before the season starts a good thing?

Last year there was a huge storyline (quest for 19-0, quest for 4th championship in a decade, the team everybody loved to hate, and a team from the biggest market) so it doesn't matter who is playing - the ratings will probably be less than they were last year. Not exactly an earth-shattering prediction on his part.

Football>Baseball

1 game > 4-7 games

I love my D-backs, and generally do watch a decent amount of playoff games, including the World Series.

But I also rarely will watch all 4-7 games of a world series unless it's the D-backs.

But regardless of who is playing in the superbowl, i'm watching it.

People plan entire parties around the superbowl, nationwide, regardless of who's in it. I've never heard of World Series parties, especially nationwide.

The superbowl is also heavily watched by international fans, and although the world series is also, they are not watched on the same level, and the superbowl is the one watched more heavily.

Also the commercials. Some people aren't thrilled with football, but will watch if, there is a party, or simply to be social and enjoy the superbowl commercials. Then they take what they see in those commercials, and it's the water cooler talk for monday-tuesday.

I'm sorry it could be the Browns vs. Lions, the 2008 Browns vs. the 2008 Lions, and it would be heavily watched.

Just another card hater, who likened us and our fans with those of Tampa Bay, correlated the two much higher than should be, then decided to be the first to 'predict' it, and try to reap the rewards.

What will the ratings be? Not sure, it could be up, it could be down 5 percent or so. But when the number that comes in total worldwide is hundreds of millions, I'll laugh when he says, 'see I'm right', when really he will just look like a buffoon by stating that hundreds of millions of viewers is 'disastrous'.

Who cares what Mike Freeman wants to see?

NFL games are decided on the field, not in popularity contests.

I don't care how bad the ratings are I've been waiting since 1975 to see this game.

And the D-Backs/Yankees world series had one of the lowest ratings of all world series, yet is arguably one of the most exciting in the history of the game.

You snooze you lose!

That's how I felt about the World Series and that's how I feel about the Super Bowl. Who (besides the network and the NFL) gives a damn who's watching?

I told him this country luvs to cheer for the under-dog. ...and as for dreadful?? I HaTE BOTH the Giants & the Patriots and DIDN'T watch the Super Bowl last year. So, last years' match-up was "dreadful" for me. BUT...NOT this years. :D

I hate the Giants and the Patriots and I STILL watched last year. It's the Super Bowl, dude.
