Did everyone see the Mike Martz quote regarding his QB situation? "It's tragic for this football team, for that position to hold this whole football team hostage"....."Tragic", really??? The word "Tragic" comes to mind when thinking of that poor woman that was killed by the drunken Leonard Little (who is somehow not suspended by the NFL after getting a 2nd DWI, yeards after the true tragedy). The word "tragic" also comes to mind when thinking of Pat Tillman, and his entire family.

What a complete idiot Martz proves himself to be repeatedly. Yeah, it's really "tragic" that your organization lacked the foresight to have a decent 2nd string QB to the skinny Mark Bulger. The correct word would be "unfortunate", moron!

Just felt it warranted mentioning.

Go Cards....7-9 Division Champs!

I think the use of the word is a bit of an overstatement. I mean it could be tragic but in reality on what scale compared to other things? He just probably could have used better verbage and held himself a bit more accountable for not having players in place to take over his system. A good point is chandler is not a vet who will fit the lambs system. Plus that he's got a bit of a bad reputation for kicking teams when they're down running up scores, a bit of gloating. They're window of opportunity is closing faster than expected. The guys just not well liked by alot of people.

The guy totally threw his own player under the bus, basically pinning the entire loss on him. And, not only that, he gives a slimy answer to avoid questions of his playcalling by saying Steven Jackson would not have made a difference and he couldn't even remember if he got in the game. Bull crap. He knew damn well Jackson hadn't gotten in, he calls the plays and personnel packages.

    2. The art or theory of writing or producing these works.
  1. A play, film, television program, or other narrative work that portrays or depicts calamitous events and has an unhappy but meaningful ending.
  2. A disastrous event, especially one involving distressing loss or injury to life: an expedition that ended in tragedy, with all hands lost at sea.
  3. A tragic aspect or element.

...Martz's usage of the word was poor. Little should be in jail, not the NFL.
I agree hands down with the initial post.

Unless someone dies on the field a coach should never resort to tragedy. It's just a game.

if i were to lose a job i would probably consider it tragic. in a way, martz's job is at stake, and it is more than likely in jeapardy after this past game, his team looked awful. i just think he rubs alot of people the wrong way and some people start looking for reasons or read into quotes in order to talk more crap about him.

the truth is that words only describe feelings of people and are rated on scales depending on the person. what is a tragedy to me may not be a tragedy to u or even to mike martz. no matter what the dictionary says, i would consider the cardinals not making the playoffs a tragedy considering how it seems every thing is in place for us to make a run and go down in history as one of the only teams to actually make the playoffs at7-9.

in short, i dont really care what mike martz says or the words he uses to describe the loss or place blame for the loss on any one player. i just dont think it is right to rip the guy because of the use of the word tragic.

No offense man, but what did we have for a 2nd string QB?

Martz

Matty - I guess we'll just disagree regarding the word "tragic"; I personally don't feel the definition of that word is open to interpretation - having a 2nd string QB with Super Bowl experience should never be termed "tragic" under any circumstances. If Martz feels the potential loss of his job is "tragic" and wants to blame Chandler, perhaps he would be better suited to look at his own gutless play-calling at the end of last year's playoff game vs. Carolina (with all the momentum, he took 0 shots at the end zone and played for FG/OT) which probably cost his team a return to the SB.

8ndcorner - You'll certainly get no argument from me that our back-up QB situation is nearly as bad as the Rams, however (to my knowledge) Denny Green never termed our situation "tragic"....therein lies the huge difference....

Good discussion though, fellas.

It may not have been the best choice of words but it is not a "tragic" choice of the word "tragic".

Martz is the most over-rated coach in the NFL. Vermeil built the team and Martz has slowly destroyed it.
