Maybe it wasn't so much the fact that he didn't want to talk to the shrink, maybe it was the kind of reaction he gave the shrink. I'm not close, and wasn't there, so i don't know exactly. I just think it's a very wise thing to look beyond arm strenght and precision passing when you decide to give a guy 30+ million guaranteed.

That is bizzare. Hey , it's personal. Maybe that's all Stafford had to say, but he'd (Singletary) have issue with that too mtl. Go work on your own headcases there in 9er land.

That's funny coming from a guy who dropped his pants in front of the whole team. A shrink would have a field day with that one.

A Freudian "pants" slip, so to speak.

beat me to it. If you are on the niners you better be able to talk to a shrink. You're gonna see some messed up stuff.

So let me get this straight.... The niners won't draft a Qb who wouldn't be there for thier pick anyway because he had a broken home? This is news? I was initially concerned that Singeltary would cause us some future headaches in our Division, but he may have taken too many hits to the head. His antics are turning out to be comical. While I understand his need to delve deeply after the Alex Smith debacle, this is a silly reason to cross a guy off of your list. There was another report that he moved forward with signing Brandon Jones even though his coaches did not like the move.

So we are to trust an unnamed source quoting "reports" about what Singletary said. Yellow dog journalism has been elevated to new heights here.

Say what??? Read the story before commenting. Yellow dog journalism wouldn't include a direct quote from Singletary:

"If you're going to look at drafting a guy in the first round, and you're going to pay him millions of dollars, and asking him about a divorce about his parents, if that's going to be an issue, uhhh, then you know what, maybe he doesn't belong here."

I think that it being an issue is blown out of proportion. He just thinks it's not appropriate to respond to it in this process maybe. Personal is personal. If that's all he thought about it, why talk to a shrink, or even bring up that possibility by Singletary? Out of line, somewhat. Could he not accept , "it's personal" , from Stafford? He should have just moved on , instead of commenting on something so personal. That was wrong, IMO. What does he have to gain from commenting to the press?

Oh, lord. Back up.

Reports Said Singletary said "...blah...blah...." The reports are unnamed. Which reports? Which reporters? Did Singletary confirm he said it? If not, have you heard a recording of Singletary saying this? If all this passes the smell test, okay, it's now worth discussing.

If it does get confirmed, good on Mike. He's vetting players his own way. As all coaches should. Is Mike loopy? Maybe he is. Mike's head coach Ditka was. Mike's mentor, Buddy Ryan was. Singletary's QB in Chicago, Jim McMahon made being loopy an art form. Loopy worked in Chicago.

Be nice. Mrs. (Dr.) G is a shrink (a modern psychoanalyst and a good one). And our #2 son is a psychiatrist/psychoanalyst as well.

I once interviewed for an executive position through a head-hunter. Interviewer was a "personnel consultant", Dr. Joel Goldberg, who turned out to be the resident psych guy for the NY Giants. (I had no idea at the time).

Some people - for various reasons, mostly cultural - are creeped out by the thought of having to spend time with a shrink, but that doesn't make them bad people nor is it likely to accurately forecast that they'd be rotten professional football players.

There's no reason SF and Singletary had to be confrontational by positioning the Stafford interview as a session with a shrink. All they probably had to do was to spin it as "a sitdown with our 'human resources professional.'"

Skorp... what part of Singletary is QUOTED and therefore on the record, don't you understand.

If he didn't say it or wants to clarify his remarks, he can do so. But, as it stands, we have a clear and unequivocal opinion offered by Coach Singletary on the issue.

A reporter who makes up quotes, which seems to be your suggestion, and attributes them is without a job in short order.

Oh, lord. Back up.

Reports Said Singletary said "...blah...blah....".
To repeat that now infamous quote -"It all depends on what the word 'blah' is."

You never can be sure how hard-charging, "inspirational" coaches will turn out - Will Singletary become the next Vince Lombardi? Or will he become the next Frank Kush?

His main challenge will be the that his message may eventually get old, and his players will begin to tune him out.

(Note - Back in the Coach Mac era, I was lobbying hard for him to sign Singletary as our DC, since they both had Chicago Bear backgrounds. Alas it never happened).

(Note note - If you don't watch or TIVO David Letterman, I urge you to do so: They have a dude on the show who regularly appears as Mike Singletary and who cracks me up).
