New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel met with the media on Tuesday and broke his silence on Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter.
An argument could be made that Carter is the best overall prospect on the entire draft board. There's a chance he falls to the Patriots, depending on what the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants end up doing. So far, the Titans appear locked in on Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
Both the Giants and Browns need quarterbacks as well, but they could always take the best available players, who many view as Carter and Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. The Patriots hosted Carter on a top-30 visit, and while Vrabel wouldn't go into detail about the visit, he did give a film review of Carter's game.
"I would say that the tape is dynamic. There's a lot of great qualities of a disruptive pass rusher. Very slippery, loose, sudden player. It was a fun tape to watch," said Vrabel.
The Patriots have a clear need at pass rush, and a player like Carter would give the team an elite playmaking defender for years to come.
There has been a ton of speculation in regards to how the top of the draft will shake out. No one knows for sure how things will go, but it’s clear Vrabel has his eye on Carter and others as a potential Patriots pick.
