Not too many rookies become the daily center of attention in spring training, let alone rookie middle relief pitchers. Then again, there aren't many rookies in baseball like Wade Miley.
"Everybody just took to him right away," Diamondbacks veteran closer J.J. Putz said. "You can't help but like the kid. He's a good guy, a fun-loving guy.
"Oh, and he's the only guy I know who thinks it's a quick drive from Alcatraz to San Diego."
Miley, who hails from tiny Loranger, La., freely admits he's no geographic wizard. The left-hander from the backwoods isn't much of a vocabulary expert, either.
