Home crowd was awesome, Kaepernick has a very distinct, "annoying" sound to his voice you can hear on tv when he's calling out the signals. Most of the first half you couldn't hear him at all because of the crowd. I think the crowd played a large role in the fast start.

As Darkside and I were saying yesterday in the game thread, Chris Johnson is taking Ellington's job or at least challenging it. He's much better running between the tackles than I realized, much better at it than Ellington is.

The run defense has been so good in recent years it surprises me now to see anybody run on us but with that many DB's and a back like Hyde I guess you live with it. The pass defense yesterday was amazing, PP completely shut out his man.

Still trying to figure out why Armstead didn't get penalized for the throat slash gesture on 3rd down, I actually thought Taylor got the first on that play but he got it on the next one. But Armstead walked forward, posed, and then did the gesture. I would assume the NFL will fine him they've been very consistent on that one for years now. Seemed like lots of penalties went uncalled once the game got to 28-0

Fells seems to have come back to earth again, drop on what would have been a big gain, but I think blocking is getting better.

THe OL was very good, yes Palmer got hit but most of those hits were after the ball was out, and the run game was excellent because of big holes. Cooper keeps getting better week by week.

The big punt return was bizarre, it was like the whole coverage team overran the play or something there was literally one guy on the left side until Butler, really weird.

It seemed like the Niners were sending a lot of extra guys and that the overload was too much for our blockers to hold, but the freed up man wasn't getting there until after Palmer got rid of the ball.

I think it's just a case of his legs not being as fast as his mind, right now...He's seeing the holes, lanes and cutbacks, but it probably so shocked that he can't get his legs to react fast enough...He'll come around, I'm sure of it...

For some reason, I feel way more confident with CJ than with AE...

I'm with you; My gut is that the coaching staff should go with CJ and use Ellington in the slot and as an "offensive weapon" as opposed to starting RB.

I like David Johnson more as a backup RB too....that run where he was carrying Niners was a thing of beauty.

This...the one thing that Cards fans can learn from Packers and Broncos fans, is how to be quiet when the offense is on the field...You can hear a pin drop in Lambeau when Rodgers is calling out the cadence.

Veldeer had three penalties in the 1Q, but was fine after that. One was a holding.

As for the Santa Clara fans they were loud during the Cards first possession. After Karp threw that first pick6, they quieted down. After the second pick6 they were no where to be heard. Maybe their 37yd punt return, but that was it. The beat down was on.

Right it was like the great Rams teams where teams were saying we're goign to hit your QB and the Rams were saying ok but we're going to throw downfield to wide open guys. It's not sustainable if Palmer gets hit that hard every week, but most teams aren't going to keep doing it when the QB is destroying them like that. It's why I said it seemed SF was more interested in big hits than actually stopping us, they never adjusted. They don't have the DB's to cover when bringing that many guys.

He probably isn't but the yards he did get were impressive.

When the season started I predicted CJ would be the starting RB by game 4 or 5. I think that will still hold true.

I agree the thing is a healthy Ellington can't run between the tackles which brings the defense in opening up the hole for that other run that CJ lost his balance on.

That is, that run was open BECAUSE CJ was so effective running between the tackles earlier.

I was not a huge fan of us signing him but right now I'm so glad we did, he's so much better than I expected he would be.

Chants of "Larry! Larry! Larry!" are one thing, but the noise level - from our own fans - stayed up too often when we had the ball.

It is nothing new. Back in the day they had a graphic of Big Red shushing the crowd with a sign that said "Shhh !! Kurt is working !!" or something just like that.

Yesterday they showed a graphic on the big board several times which was simply a black screen with a Cardinals' crown and a message like "Be Calm We're On Offense."

Ridiculous.

The Patriots love to run up the score. New England hung 51 points on Jacksonville yesterday, and coach Bill Belichick left Tom Brady in the game, throwing passes, deep into the fourth quarter. It’s odd that Belichick is willing to risk an injury to Brady like that, but that’s the way Belichick has done it for years: Since 2007, the Patriots have scored more than 50 points in a game eight times, by far the most of any team in the league. The Patriots look like the best team in the NFL right now. But they’d have a tough game against the Cardinals.

Funny you put this because in Denver last year, they had "quiet, Manning and company are working" on the jumbo tron. It was something like that and it was dead silence in the crowd. Almost too quiet as if people weren't watching the game. Now that is the way it should be on offense

I think most can see that Chris Johnson is a more natural RB than Andre Ellington. Ellington has more juice, but CJ has very little wasted motion and has better timing to the hole.

What impressed me yesterday was the number of times he made a jump cut in the hole, between the tackles and wound up with 3-5 yards. Those are the carries where Ellington just lowers his head and gets buried for no gain, Johnson is making much more out of those carries.

Ellington still obviously has a place on this team and maybe even a big role, but I think CJ is clearly more effective when we're running the ball regularly.

At the game yesterday I noticed something really subtle that CJ does at the end of runs which I had never really noticed or paid any mind to before but is actually quite effective.

Right before contact he will kind of quickly shift his shoulders and head as he lowers them so that if a defender does committ the cardinal sin of trying to tackle him high, there is really nothing to solidly grab on to (other than his facemask) and he is usually able to eek out a couple of extra yards after contact. He's super slippery inside when he is able to keep his feet underneath him.

The guy is a pro. He's a lot more than just a one dimensional speedster. Hell of a signing by the front office!
