MJ also reporting that if Horton is hired his DC will be a current college DC? Who could that be?

Does any DC in college have any kind of relationship with Horton?

Perhaps someone from the Pittsburgh tree is now coaching at the College level. There are few Colleges, if I understand correctly, that run a 3-4.

Found this. Perhaps some who now the coaches involved can glean a few possible names:

Heading into the 2010 season, more than a dozen teams will use the 3-4 as their base defense, and a few more teams plan to sprinkle odd-man fronts into their game plans. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Houston, Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas A&M and Texas Tech are switching their base defense to a 3-4 this season, and Alabama, Air Force, Army, Navy, BYU, California and SMU will continue to have three down linemen and four linebackers on the field in 2010.

Honestly, so many coaches do the buddy buddy thing that we lose track that the real objective is to get a good coach. I do not think he has to have any ties to ask a college DC but more someone's coaching he admires. Getting a shot at the big time in the pros is usually enough for most to jump at the opportunity.

great point. But it does help to have some kind of relationship established to gauge how well they can communicate

hmmm I have a theory could it be Todd Grantham? Has some NFL exp and currently runs a 3-4 for a college team that has one of the best defenses in the country at Georgia. He is one of the few in college who run a 3-4

When I copied a list of College teams running a 3-4 from an article on the subject, he was prominently mentioned.

here is a good question, which one of those guys has been a DC the longest. I know, that is a lot of crap to look up. Just curious and do not want to do it for myself lol

Well put it this way we arent taking anyone from Navy, Army, Air Force, SMU, or georgia tech. It has to be someone from either Georgia, Bama, or ND which is why I said Grantham.

Clancy Pendergast is the DC at Cal so you can scratch that name off the list.

Grantham worked for Dom Capers in HOU, who worked w/ LeBeau in PGH.

Grantham was once hired by Dom Capers and Romeo Crenell and seems to have had success everywhere he goes with an aggressive style. The more I read the more I like, I hope I'm right with my guess.
