Urban's blog said 3 free agents are visiting today but Graves wouldn't reveal the names. Why wouldn't he give out the names? It's not like it's a big secret that this is the time of year you bring in FA's. The only guy i could think he would want to keep quiet would be a high stature guy and the only one that comes to mind is Ray Lewis. Nobody else out there is really that big of deal. I think the three are amongst McFadden, Bartell, Lewis, Benson, and Barnes. With Bartell and McFadden i could see Graves playing them against each other and taking whoever comes the cheapest. Not a horrible idea.

Call me cynical, but i think that it's brought out like that to calm down the fanbase a little. A little gesture saying: "Look, 3 guys are coming in, we're busy we're busy". Since they didn't bring it out themselves they can always say that all the talk was just gossip. And since no names are mentioned (outside McFadden) no real expectations can arise.

If big names would be involved their names would've been mentioned by now, matter of supply and demand, if more teams are interested the price will go up, so no advantage for the player and the agent to keep things quiet.

Of course i hope i'm wrong.

Three free agents visiting

The Cardinals are expected to have three free-agent visitors today. One was the much-talked about one from cornerback Bryant McFadden, formerly of the Steelers. The other two are from the offensive backfield: running back LaMont Jordan, who played in eight games for the Patriots last year while battling injuries, and fullback John Kuhn of the Packers. Kuhn played for the Steelers in 2006, so he has ties to coach Ken Whisenhunt.

LaMont Jordan
Running back
Height: 5-10 Weight: 230

I have been eying Jordan for a little bit. My biggest problems are durability and age. He is 30 years old, and has some definate tred on the tires. He goes from the Raiders where he was in a pitiful offense, to the Patriots and gets hurt. So you just don't know about him.

From what I have seen over the years is that he has some wheels (nothing special but he can take it to the house on occasion), and can definately pound it out for yardage.

At the right price he would be good for depth reasons, plus he has some size to him at 230 pounds.

John Kuhn
Fullback
Height: 6-0 Weight: 259 Age: 26
Experience: 3rd season

Big guy. Low price. That is all I got.

* From what little I can find on the web, this guy is pretty good at locking onto his targets and lowering the boom. Makes his money with his run blocking.

He is a fullback. What is there to say ? Unless you are in a pro bowl once or twice do you really know anything about them ? I guess you have to trust in Whiz that he is bringing in a guy he is comfortable with.

I am all for signing both guys. Jordan binging a boom or bust time signing, barring Jordan understands he will be sharing time here in AZ.

I'm much more interested in Kuhn than Jordan.

I can pretty much guarantee you that we sign Kuhn. He was a Steeler

A sure-handed, reliable fullback the Packers had their eye on for a couple of years, claiming him off waivers from Pittsburgh on Sept. 2, 2007

  • Entered last season as the backup to rookie starter Korey Hall and gradually earned more playing time and shared duties
  • Was a key blocker in running formations and important special-teamer, posting 11 coverage tackles
  • Last season, was one of only two players in the NFL from Shippensburg University (Pa.), with the other teammate and long snapper Rob Davis, now the Packers' director of player development
  • Played in nine games for the Steelers in 2006
  • Had been on Pittsburgh's practice squad at the end of the 2005 season and the first half of 2006 prior to that
  • Originally signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent out of Shippensburg, where he set 27 school record and four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) records
  • School records included 4,685 yards rushing on 910 carries (5.1 avg.) with 53 touchdowns, 26 games with at least 100 yards rushing, and 5,300 all-purpose yards

2007 Season

  • Claimed off waivers Sept. 2 from Pittsburgh, played in all 16 games, getting all the reps at fullback during the last two games of the regular season with Hall out due to a hip injury
  • Also played in both playoff contests
  • Gained more playing time from scrimmage in the second half of the season, particularly in run formations
  • Key special teams performer recorded 11 tackles on coverage units
  • Played on special teams vs. Philadelphia (Sept. 9), coming away with two kick coverage stops
  • Resumed the role vs. San Diego (Sept. 23) and made two special teams stops, then one the next week at Minnesota (Sept. 30)
  • Made two special teams tackles vs. Chicago (Oct. 7) and again vs. Washington (Oct. 14)
  • Vs. Carolina (Nov. 22), blocked LB Na'il Diggs to allow Ryan Grant to cut back for a game-long 23-yard rush
  • At Dallas (Nov. 29), made a key block on Grant's 62-yard touchdown run, penetrating the gap and knocking LB Akin Ayodele out of the way
  • Vs. Oakland (Dec. 9), blasted LB Thomas Howard to open a hole on Grant's game-long 26-yard run
  • At Chicago (Dec. 23), saw action as the primary fullback with Hall out
  • Vs. Detroit (Dec. 30), made his first start for Green Bay for Hall and made one catch for 5 yards. On Brandon Jackson's third-quarter, 46-yard run, took out LB Ernie Sims to create running room
  • Played in both playoff games at fullback and on special teams, starting the NFC Championship vs. the New York Giants (Jan. 20), when the team opened in a two-fullback set

Whis knows him it seems, and he sounds like a young guy who works hard and blocks.

Works for me.

Pooh on Lamont Jordan. We are definitely drafting a RB, IMO.

And I really, really want McFadden.

Jordan would be a decent depth signing. Lets not forget what he did to us when we went up to Foxboro.

Time for me to break out the my friend used to be neighbors with Lamont Jordan story.

When Lamont was a Raider a friend lived fairly near him. Jordan has a very serious back problem, that's why he has been seeing such limited action in recent years he essentially has to take a painkiller shot to play.

Jordan's back was so bad the friend said jordan once asked him if he could help him take his garbage cans to the curb because Jordan couldn't lift it himself. it's not an injury that's healed it's a chronic condition with his back. Not playing allows it to feel better but once he starts playing again the back will come back. it's also one of those injuries where in favoring the back he ends up with leg problems and other nagging injuries that are related to favoring the back.

Unless he's had some miraculous recovery he's a part time player.

Casting aside other issues. If LaMont Jordan is on the field, you have another talented individual on it imo.

I like him. He's not a world beater, he isn't an LT, AP or anything like that. But would I want him on the cards, OH YEAH.

I wouldn't break the bank, but if the offer is reasonable, 3-5 mill. (seems like a lot, but 5 mill in the nfl today will be equivalent to what we feel is a guy worth 2 mill a season imo)

If we can get him for less, even better. Hard to gauge his overall value. But I feel the talent is there.

edit: after reading russ's post...um chronic back injury not good. I hereby lower by offer by at least one mill a season 2-4 mill per, 2 years max

Jordan would bring a between-the-tackles dimension we'd no longer have should Edge not return.

Plus - other than Wells and one of the Browns - there really isn't much in the draft when it comes to 225+ lb thumpers (i.e. most of the available guys are 190 - 210 lb slashers.

Rashad Jennings is a big back that can be drafted in round 2. Also, no to Lamont.

I think the first batch of free agents tend to give insight into where the front office sees the most need

I'm guessing we're bringing in Lamont to be the backup big back. But I would rather look at other options before signing him if his health is that big of an issue.

As for Jennings I don't know much about him and havent' seen him play but I wouldn't be suprised if the cardinals drafted a speed back or (moreno if he fell that far in the 1st round) or a Center like Eric Wood in the 2nd round.

Mind you we are going to release Edge eventually so that would only leave us with one back on the current roster with Hightower.

If Jordan can put up 4.5 a carry on a part time basis like he did with the PAts then sign him today.

Does Kuhn Combine with the emergence of Ryant Grant? Coincidence that Grant has his break out season with Kuhn blocking for him. Theres other factors for sure but I like the coincidence none the less.

I like him cause someone that big can open some holes.

Kuhn is just as tall as T. Smith and has ten pounds on him.

Add him to the 230 lbs thumper list.
Shonn Green is around 230 too IIRC.
