I am taking todays poor showing in stride, after all it is just 1 game. However I do have some concerns about how the game played out.

1. Bottom of the second, 2 men on no outs, Clayton at bat with a 3-2 count down by seven runs and we don't send the runners?? Why, shouldn't we be more aggressive at this point? hits into a double play.

2. I think in the bottom of the 3rd we pinch hit Clark. I think it was too early in the game for him. Shure could have used him in the 6th or 7th inning.

3. The lack of success of the bullpen. Bruney was the only one who was effective. I posted earlier that the bullpen looks alot like last year and this game may have showed it. The only innings where the Cubs didn't score was in the 3rd when Bruney pitched and in the 9th when Halsey finally figured out how to pitch.

4. The positive was the fact we did score 6 runs. Gonzo bunting in the run with the shift on gave notice to teams that they won't get away with the shift with men on base when he is up.

1. I thought the 3-1 pitch was a great time to hit & run with Clayton, but it's nice seeing some patience at the plate; the runners should have been going on 3-2.

2. Clark came in for Gosling in the 4th with two out, two on; hard to fault Melvin for trying to produce some runs.

3. The bullpen was the question mark going into the season, and having to work that much on Opening Day doesn't help matters much. Bruney looked good, Aquino still needs some work coming off his injury, Gosling & Halsey will get better as the season progresses.

4. The Gonzo bunt was brilliant!
