should be starting at catcher every day. he's a much better leader behind the plate than snyder and he's a better batter.

and he's a better batter.

Not much.

I'm sick of them throwing up that graphic about how he hits so much better late in the game. Doesn't everybody hit better the second or third time through the order?

.234 ain't nothin to brag about.

Most catchers are average to below average hitters anyways, so if Montero could just hover around .250 he'd probably start (nearly) every day. I think he is much better behind the plate and brings a certain "fire" that Snyder doesn't.

Montero is annoying to watch behind the plate and Snyder has been a much better player this season...

Montero drives me nuts when he starts moving around behind the plate (I'm sure it annoys the pitcher as well!)

Something I've been wondering all year: What is the teams win/loss record when Snyder is catching vs Montero? Also the era?

I believe (just a gut feeling) that it would be lopsided in Snyder's favor.

Wouldn't be fair, because Snynder pretty much always catches Webb and the like.

Yeah, I thought about that. I thought maybe it was mixed up enough to make it an accurate assessment. i.e. I thought Melvin's thing with switching them up was based more on who the opponent's pitcher was and the hitting matchup vs. who the D-Backs pitcher was.

Oh well.

Snyder is definatley a much better leader behind the plate. thats why he catches Webb. Don't get me wrong Montero has some big potential but right now snyder is a better defensive catcher (which is what a catcher is paid for) check out the difference in errors this year. I like the way Melvin is handling them right now. 16 hrs, from the catchers spot in the lineup? Nice. And don't forget, Snyder has only played for three years. and not full time with Estrada here last year. He, like renyolds, skipped AAA all together.

I think Snyder catches Webb because of their familiarity more then anything.

As far as defensively, although I haven't watched every inning of every game, I have seen many times where Snyder just does not come up with the ball, like he can't catch it.

They both seem to be about equal with their throws to 2nd, though.

As far as who calls a better game, I couldn't really tell you.
