From Aldridge's latest chat:

Link

Boomer (Toronto): David, PLEASE ANSWER since I've asked every chat you've had for about 2 months. What kind of package could the Raptors get for Vince Carter? Is a Joe Johnson, Lampe, Vujanic and salary filler like Jahidi a reasonable deal? Maggette and Kaman? Brand if the Clips get Okafor and miss out on Kobe? Please speculate!

David Aldridge: I never believe in trading stars for numbers. It never works. While I think Johnson and Vujanic have potential, I don't know if I could pull the trigger on that. I think Memphis has a lot of players and could put a good package together for Vince if they were so inclined, but I've heard nothing to indicate they are.

I understand that Aldridge learned everything he knows about being a GM from Scott Layden. :p

A lot of people, including myself at times, have been comparing a possible Tracy McGrady trade to the acquisition of Penny Hardaway. If the Phoenix Suns traded for Vince Carter at this point it would be straight up deja vu. A completely healthy Vince Carter is a top 10 NBA player. He is also a major fan draw. But he isn't healthy. He has knee problems on the same level as Hardaway's before he was traded here.

There's no way the Phoenix Suns would give up Joe Johnson for Carter and Carter's maximum contract with the injury problems.

I wish this clown would have asked about Tracy McGrady instead of Vince Carter.

Clearly, Aldridge would hold out for Amare in any McGrady deal, if he were the Orlando GM. He doesn't believe in trading stars for numbers, right? ;)

DA wouldn't do that. He'd wan't a quality player like Jarod Jefferies not some HS prospect.

One time the Suns traded a star SF named Nance for numbers. All they got was an unknown PG named Kevin Johnson and a draft pick used for Dan Marley to name two of the "numbers". None the less, these deals can be hard to sell to the fans who buy season tickets.

If I for some reason had season tickets for the Raptors, I would love to see Carter get traded, especially for numbers.

You are right Joe, that would a complete repeat deal. Thankfully, I think it is pretty clear that for the time being, the only way a part of our core is being dealt is for a superstar.

I hope the forever-centerless Suns realize they have a possible
good center in Lampe, and keep him around. I don't like seeing his
name in trade offers... Sure he is young, but he has a lot in what
you need in centers, and if he realizes that talent, he could be a factor
in a league where there are so few centers. Doesn't have to be dominant,
but with that size and shooting, we would have an advantage a lot
of nights, or at least not as much disadvantage.
You gotta be more cautious in trades when you're talking centers...
They are so valuable.

I am not sure how high I am on Lampe. He does do alot of things well. But this team doesnt need firepower, they need defense & rebounding.

That being said. I think you make a great point about trading centers with potential.
