4. CB Patrick Surtain, Chiefs
Comment: “He’s hurt (shoulder injury) and he has declined, but it’s the same thing as pass rushers; you need cover guys. You can’t get enough of them.”
Best potential fits: Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens.

5. CB Brian Kelly, Lions
Comment: “Same as with Surtain, although Kelly has declined more and he has problems in straight man coverage … not a great player anymore, but they’ll get more for him than he’s really worth.”
Best potential fits: Cardinals, Packers, Saints and Ravens.

Two CBs that could be considered an upgrade over what we have now. At least for a year while DRC is still groomed.

thoughts?

Whats with all the Rod Hood hate all of a sudden? Our biggest need IMO is at free safety

At this point in their careers I dont think either one is an upgrade. And I am not even a fan of Green.

Surtain hasnt been any good sine he turned 30 and Kelly is a pure cover 2 guy who is slow.

This isnt baseball. NFL trades during the season mean zero.

I disagree. For a position such as CB (or RB, see Ced Benson who made a difference with the Bungles after just one week with the team) adding quality players CAN make a difference.

I just wouldn't want to give up much for these two. Maybe a 6th?

The problem with defence is the lack of being able to tackle. Solve that problem & the defence will be great.

How do you teach tackling to NFL players who are already into their 2nd or 3rd seasons? Wouldn't that be like teaching a major league baseball player how to hit or pitch?

You upgrade the talent, you don't teach the fundamental skills of football

i'd bet there are few, if any, trades that have any kind of impact whatsoever. Not just for the Cards but for the entire league.

Bad example. Players can learn new things. Warner learned to play with gloves on. Baseball players are always tweaking their swings and pitches. Randy Johnson changed the way he pitched when he lost velocity. Carlos Quinten when traded was told to swing a different way by his new hitting coach and turned into an allstar.

You without a doubt can upgrade a players fundamental skills no matter how old they are. If you couldnt coaches wouldnt be teaching them 75% of the timeat training camp and practices.
