In the December issue of Sports Illustrated they list the 5 most overrated RB's in the NFL. Shawn Alexander was not 1, Edge is #2, Reggie Bush was number 5. I forgot the other two.

I should have said Shawn Alexander is #1.

Interesting. I'd move Bush to #1, with Edge at #2. Maybe Alexander at #3 since the day he signed his retirement contract.

I dont get it, Edge is #9 in the NFL in rushing. How is that overrated? With our line always in flux, it would think he has exceeded expectations...

only a cardinal fan can consider 3.8 yards a carry with little impact on a season "exceeded expectations."

hehe. "They" do, whoever they are. Or we do, with our unbiased and superior intellects, if we are trying to make a point.

So sad... so true...

People see Edge going over 1,000 yards and say WOW! We got a 1,000 yard rusher!!!!
Edge is so done... I like the guy alot, but he's so done... Our o-line is bad. Well, ok... they are really bad... And I do believe Edge's 3.8 YPC could easily have been much worse if not for his ability to fight for at least a no-loss, or even a one-yard gain...
BUT, so many times he had the chance to make much more out of a 3 yard gain, but just didn't... He can't... It's sad...

Whats SAD is fans bagging on a future HOF and the best RB we have had here in a decade. We don't have an AP get over it already! Edge has exceeded expectations behind a bad line and some fans still bitch its unbelievable! Work on our DEFENSE and then we could see some more wins!

guys, any other back would have lost yards rushing as in the past and clearly that makes Edge not any other back because at least this guys seems to fight his way most of the time to the line of scrimmage. I think Edge deserves his respect. He is a very good back. In comparison, Bush is a great football player but even now a sub-par everydown back compared to Edge or Alexander.

Edge is the best RB we have had in a long time. He fought for every yard he gained this year. You could count the number of holes he had to run through this year on one hand. He was consistently being hit at the LOS or behind the LOS and fighting to gain two or three yards instead of being tackled for a lose. Can't you understand the quality of the OL has an impact on the running game and the passing. Both Edge and Warner did a tremendous job this year despite working with a sub par OL.

You are right that neither of them had outstanding years but they had the best performance of a Cardinals RB and QB in a number of years.

thats true...but how can he be overrated? if its production to money earned, i can see it. but if it's public perception, it should go.

I really don't know if Edge is overrated... I didn't have huge expectations for the guy when he came here, so for me, what he has done is about what I expected...
I really don't care if others think he is overrated or the best thing to ever happen to the Cards. In my opinion, he has been a steady, durable running back who is no longer any sort of threat, who is incapable of turning a 2 yard run into an 8 yard run, and now, a running back that actually gets in the way of Whiz running the type of offenese he truly desires...

Interesting topic.

In my opinion, I agree totally on Alexander being #1 on the over rated list. I have just never really thought Alexander was all that great, and now he's really taken a nose dive in his productivity. Of course, I don't think that a back being "overrated" means he's a bad back. I wouldn't count Edge as over rated because really, who's rating him highly? I don't read a lot of press on Edge, he's ignored by ESPN, SI, and other sports news outlets, so how does he rank as over rated if he's not getting any press at all?

Reggie Bush would fit into the Over Rated category pretty well, because he's a really "big name" that doesn't produce much, at least not yet. To me, comparing everything as a whole, the 2nd most over rated back in Football is Adrian Peterson. I'm not saying Peterson isn't a good back, because he is, but one good year isn't enough to label a back "great." We already have people saying he's the best back in football based on what he's done this year behind a great offensive line. One year does not make a back elite, if you need to know why, just have a look at Frank Gore. For anyone that thinks that Petersons numbers are all him, look at Chester Taylor, the guy averages 5.2 Yards Per Carry. What does that tell you? The Vikings Line is dominating.

Adrian Peterson on the Cardinals would average right around 2.5 - 3.5 YPC. Peterson gets too much of the credit for his numbers, making him one of the most over rated backs in football. Again, not saying he's not good, he is good, he's just over rated.

Ronnie Brown was having a sensational year before he got injured. You meant to say Cedric Brown right?

Nope. He is one of those backs who gets meaningless #s in meaningless games.

You mean like Edge? :)

Seriously. I think Benson belongs on that list before Brown ATM.

disagree! ronnie brown is a beast. before he got injured he was running people over, and thats on the dolphins, who stunk and had to abandon the run many times.

My top 5 overrated RB's
1-Thomas Jones, misearble year in NY.Has now failed for 3 teams and the Bears chose a Cedric Benson over him.
2-Travis Henry, hasn't really done anything in Denver depite steroids and a huge contract.Lendale White has shown the Tennessee OL is responsible for that running game.I hear he's very fertile though :D.
3-Shaun Alexander, has had a bad year but this is his first one.
4-Maurice Jones-Drew- Fred Taylor is still the guy that makes that team go. I like him but the Jags would be in a lot worse shape if Taylor went down than MJD.
5-Willie Parker,no real reason.I just think he's overrated and could easily be replace as Najeh Davenport showed last week.

shaun alexander had a bad year this season........probably very overrated to start the year. it's hard to argue at his and edge's production in past years..........one may dare to say they were a product of their system(great players around them) but they were both very good in past years.

My most overrated back? CEDRIC BENSON.......he was overrated at UT as well IMHO. thomas jones did well in chicago now look at them. I don't know too much of what jones did this year. I know he played well vs. pitt in a game I watched. dallas shut him down in the other game i watched.
julius jones might be another. I like him and I like the system dallas has with he and barber. It produces when the cowboys committ to running. However, jones has never been the back that I thought he was going to be based on what I saw in his rookie year. Maybe it's because barber gets most of the carries, but jones has taken a back seat this year. Maybe he will do better on a team that gives him the ball more.
