in my best redneck writing.....

Well, the wife came home from church (I'm a practicing heathen myself, although I did spend the better part of the morning cleaning the kitchen..that oughta buy me out of some time in purgatory...) and I asked her what she wanted to do for Mother's Day. She, as usual, was dry on ideas other than to sit around and bask by the pool seein's how the kitchen was clean. So, I in my wildest ideas on how to get out of the sittin by the pool thing (fat dudes start grease fires in this heat, I don't care how much water you got) I suggested we try to make pizza in the grill. Good thing I'm such a sweettalker, as I'd managed to break her last pizza stone a few years back on the same grill, and here I was asking her for another. She was even kindly enough to ferry me up the the Linen's N Things store, where we found and purchased 2 pizza stones - 1, a 13 inch the other, a 15.
We stopped by the local purveyor store type market (basha's around here) and picked up the making's for pizza to include the dough. What's a dumb hick like me know about making pizza dough.
Anywho...we fired up the old ceramic cooker and here's a sample of what came off...sure was tastey and not bad for a married couple drinking Italian wine and listening to Irish folk music at the same time (along wilst cooking pizza, of course).

I bought a pizza stone from Villa Ware that is designed for the grill. I think it is like $55 on Amazon. The thing is great and I am addicted to making pizzas on the grill...at least once a week. It is the only way to make a good pizza at home since the oven does not get hot enough to cook the dough properly.

Exactly. The crust on the pizza was fantastic. I still have a lot to learn, but it turned out pretty darned good for a first attempt.

Did you heat your stone up with your grill? What temp did you cook your pizza at?

I've already cracked two pizza stones with the Big Green Egg and am not looking forward to cracking another. I usually get the heat up to 550 and cook for 5-8 minutes.

It says to heat the stone up with the grill. I get the temperature up to 600+ degrees.

The stone I have is for the grill and has a raiser that keeps the stone off the grates and a little further above the flames.

I usually cook my pizza for 8 - 12 minutes.

Yes, I heated mine up in the grill. Notice that I'm also using a barrier (fire bricks) because the last time I didn't, I cracked a stone too.
I cooked these at 400....next time I want to try it between 650 and 700.
Can't wait!
How do you like the BGE? I've heard great things about them - they have a fanatical user base. I'm sure you've been to http://biggreenegg.com?
Great resource for all ceramic cookers.
I picked up a grilldome just to be a little different; I've been quite pleased with it.
