Closet Land - 1991

This is one of my favorite movies. It stars Madeleine Stowe as an author of children's books being interrogated by Alan Rickman in a "futuristic" police state. This is a very profound movie. It really made an impression on me about inner strength, courage and determination.

If you are an Alan Rickman fan, this is a must see. I believe it is his best work to date. It was directed by Radha Bharadwaj, who also wrote and directed Basil.

Do not go to IMDB to read review - it will Spoil part of the story. Instead read below:

from IMDB:A young writer is interrogated by a sadistic secret policeman. She is accused of embedding political messages in her children's stories. ... The movie is set in an unidentified, modern police state.

from Amazon:
This is a very powerful, moving and skillfully written and acted film. The above mentioned reviewer is most likely a product of the MTV generation of fast takes and shallow dialog. Often times movies that are panned by the 'common folk', are done so, because they watch movies for pure entertainment and have no appreciation for what goes into the craft of direction, dialog and overall film making. This movie will not leave you with a 'good' feeling, but at least it will leave you with a profound impact.
No, it may not mirror true reality, but what film actually does completely. I rented this movie years ago, (I do confess to wanting to see the lovely Madeline Stowe and the versatile actor Rickman) but was quickly absorbed into its depth and power.
Watch it in a quiet room with little distraction and I assure you; you will be moved.
