Evil Ash
Henchman Supreme
Before I get on with my review of the movie I have to rant a little bit here. I really despise reality TV. If all of these reality shows were taken off of the air, I would be the happiest man on the planet. I like creativity and these shows completely lack it from the standpoint that all of them seem to come from the same "lets put a group of random people together, make them live together for a limited amount of time and then see what the hell happens" crap that executives seem to spew out and people want to watch. I honestly don't know how anyone can enjoy them.
However after saying all that, I loved this movie not only for the fact that it predicted the reality TV phenomena 5 years before it happened but also because of some of the more hidden items (I guess you could almost call them subliminal) that are seen throughout the movie. For example the only "real" person in the show has a last name of Truman (like True man) and the shows creator/director who is playing God is named Kristov(sp?) (like Christ of). In short its one of those movies that if you see it more than once, you'll catch more and more intricacies each time you see it.
This film features solid acting from a couple of my favorite actors in Hollywood (Jim Carrey and the somewhat undervalued Ed Harris), a good job directing from Peter Weir, and a very creative screenplay by Andrew Niccol. This is another creative and thought-provoking movie I highly recommend!
SYNOPSIS from Rotten Tomatoes:
The life of Truman Burbank has been broadcast around the world with tremendous success since the day he was born. A star for the mere fact that he exists, Truman has no idea that there are cameras in every corner of his world.
Favorite Line: (after the product placement for the cocoa) "Who in the hell are you talking to?"
