Beverly Hills Cop

Cast
Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, Lisa Eilbacher, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, Steven Berkoff, Jonathan Banks, Stephen Elliott, Bronson Pinchot, Paul Reiser

Synopsis
The heat is on in this fast-paced action-comedy starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street smart Detroit cop tracking down his best friend's killer in Beverly Hills. Axel quickly learns that his wild style doesn't fit in with the Beverly Hills Police Department, which assigns two officers (Judge Reinhold & John Ashton) to make sure things don't get out of hand. Dragging the stuffy detectives along for the ride, Axel smashes through a culture clash in his hilarious, high-speed pursuit of justice.

------------------------------------------------------

One of the funniest movies of the 80s, this movie spearheaded a renaissance in film comedy, leading to movies like Lethal Weapon.

Axel Foley (besides having a great name) gives Eddie Murphy perhaps his greatest character outside of a Saturday Night Live skit. The guy can be extremely funny but yet Murphy makes him much more than that, because when he is serious, you can definitely feel his intensity. Not every comedic actor can do that.

Supporting cast is terrific in the film, especially John Ashton and Judge Reinhold--chemistry between the 3 leads is very noticeable and makes for some very funny byplay.

The story is not as simple as you'd expect, and the fact that a Detroit police officer in Beverly Hills being a gimmick does not detract from the actual investigation which serves at the core of the film. It all culminates in some great acting and a terrific gun battle climax that is hard to be beat, even in today's wire-fu explosion extravaganzas.

Most everyone has probably seen this movie, but to those that haven't, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It's definitely worth it.

Great choice. Such a great character (Foley). You're right about the chemistry between the three. Great mix of comedy/drama/action.

Very funny film. I agree that Eddie Murphy does a great job with the Axel Foley character. He has much more depth that you normally see in that sort of wise-cracking role.

I should also mention that the soundtrack was very good as well. Very innovative and memorable stuff from Harold Faltermeyer. You can't hear the Beverly Hills Cop or Fletch themes without thinking, "80's".

This was the first R rated movie my parents ever bought for me. I got it for Christmas in like, 1985. I was 8 if I am thinking correctly.

Of course.... That could explain some things. lol

Edit: I still have the vhs tape and it is still in a very worn sleeve. LOVE this movie.
