I dont expect much action on this thread either I guess. I sure hope that the lack of response from my first two choices means that you havent seen the films, but at least will attempt to now. I know I dont pick the blockbusters or anything, but all my choices rank as some of my most favorite films. I takes movies more seriously than most, though not as seriously as Chap, and view them as art before entertainment, generally. But dont get me wrong. Smoochie is artistic in its costuming and its color and lighting, and has a WONDERFULLY dark comedic script, but it is definitely entertainment.

I havent laughed so hard at a film in a LONG time. Robin Williams returns to his comedic roots, playing a defrocked childrens show host who's only meaningful pursuit in life, now that he's been caught taking payola, is to take down his wildly popular replacement host, Smoochie the rhino, played by Edward Norton. Williams is a foul mouthed psychotic who will stop at nothing to take SMoochie down, and when he appears to have succeeded at one point int he film, he ironically performs an adorable little song and dance celebrating Smoochies demise. Brilliant.

Norton plays the sensitive overly optimistic and naive host to a T. This guy is such a fantastic actor. From racist skinhead in American History X to SUpport Group Addicted Schizophrenic in Fight Club to Loveable CHildrems show host Smoochie the Rhino. He's awesome.

Catherine Keener (I find her peculiarly hot for some reason) is awesome as the shows producer, and Norton's object of affection.

Danny DeVito picked a real gem to direct here, while also playing the role of the underhanded manager of Smoochie.

I have absolutely no clue why this film wasn't a runaway hit. Dark humor, an awesome screenplay, and a wonderful cast makes this film one of my favorite comedies of all time. In fact, Im putting it in the player right now, for the 9th or 10th time, Id guess.

You guys will discuss this film today, or Ill kill the lot of you.

Sorry schutd - I haven't seen any of the last three that you've put up so far.

This is one that I really wanted to see though - I love Robin Williams and wanted to catch this one.

Its OK. I'm a movie snob. Rather than getting all arty farty and talking about obscure stuff like Eraserhead, or whatever, this week, I have tried to post films that I think would have a broad appeal, but for a large part, went under the radar when released. So I hope you guys try and check em out.

I actually haven't seen Death to Smoochie (never had the desire to), but you are the only person I've ever heard actually say good things about the movie. That includes people I know here in Los Angeles and within Warner Bros., who produced the movie!

C'mon now. Dave and I both liked this movie a lot. We've posted about it before on this board.

This movie did poorly in the theaters, but I have seen it a handful of times. I guess it is just my kind of humor.

The mob, corruption, and a children's show...what's not to love? :D

Well, I frequently forget your posts, so that shouldn't be a surprise, right?

I agree 100%.

That being said, I enjoyed this movie very much, especially the look of the movie. But then again my sense of humor has always been a little askew.

As Austin Powers said, "This kind of thing ain't my bag, baby"

Both Norton and Keener did great jobs with their roles but I found Robin Williams more aggravating than anything else. I guess it's one of those cases where people who like it really like it and those who didn't really didn't. I fall into the latter category.

I think the people that did not like this movie either went into it expecting it to be bad, or expecting it to be a different kind of film.

If you expected it to be bad, you likely never gave yourself a chance to get into it.

If it's not your kind of film, that is a far different thing than it being a bad film.

Come on, this just comes across as lecturing. :)

Wow, funny how when YOU like something, it's just because it's just not our "cup of tea"...but when you DON'T like something someone else likes, you can make fun of that person to no end...ala Ricci, Roberts...etc.

I expected this to be a satire with a sick sense of humor - which it was. I just didn't like it, although I can say that I understood what they were trying to do. Not saying it's bad and you shouldn't like it, just saying I didn't happen to.

I think it's a far different thing to compare who likes a particular movie to who thinks a particular actress is hot or not.

Did you even see the movie we're talking about? :D

That's cool.

I just know a lot of people who have not seen this because they say "I saw a preview of it and I just don't think I'd like the movie." I think some of the people who have seen it have gone in with that same preconceived opinion.

But what do I know...I can't stand Austin Powers. :D

How is it different? It's all a matter of personal opinion, either way...movie, or looks.

Well, I guess I must also must be in the minority on this one. I really liked this movie and found it rather enjoyable. Then again I've always had a somewhat twisted sense of humor.

I found Williams to be truely annoying and a bit over the top. I love Edward Norton, I think he is a brilliant actor who can pull just about any role off. With out Norton this movie would have bombed worse than it did
