Cast:Clint Eastwood, Harry Guardino, Reni Santoni, John Vernon, Andrew Robinson

Synopsis: 1971's Dirty Harry marks the debut of Inspector Harry Callahan, a maverick San Francisco cop who breaks all the rules to bring criminals to justice.

In this first installment in the series, Callahan has to try and stop The Scorpio Killer, a deranged hippie who commits several murders with a sniper rifle. Callahan manages to catch Scorpio, but he is then set free because evidence is deemed by the courts to have been obtained illegally. "Dirty Harry" will then stop at nothing to end The Scorpio Killer's reign of terror.

It's hard to believe that Dirty Harry is now 35 years old. Its central themes about society's coddling of criminals and the flaws of the criminal justice system remain as pertinent today as they were then. The film is also one of the best cop dramas of the genre.

Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" Callahan is a true screen icon that has been replicated many times, but never equaled. I am a big fan of the first three "Dirty Harry" films which includes 1973's Magnum Force and 1976's The Enforcer. The last two films in the series, 1983's Sudden Impact and 1986's The Dead Pool just don't measure up to the first three.

Dirty Harry is a great film that still does not seem dated. The audience of today can identify with Harry and his frustrations with "the system" which is why the film, and Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" character, continue to have such a huge following to this day.

I love the Dirty Harry films.

The scene that always stuck with me was when the Scorpio Killer paid to have a guy beat him to a pulp so he could frame Harry for the assault.

Excellent choice.
