Cast: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Rob Schneider, Sean Astin, Lusia Strus, Blake Clark
Synopsis: Adam Sandler plays Henry Roth, a veterinarian at a Hawaiian sea life park living the playboy life. Commitment is something Henry can do without until one morning when he meets the beautiful and funny Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore). Henry believes he has found the woman of his dreams until he finds out that Lucy has a form of short-term memory loss that causes her to forget him every night as she sleeps. Henry then embarks on a mission to get Lucy to remember him by getting her to fall in love with him every day.
I admit I resisted seeing this film because it never seemed appealing to me, but when I finally did I enjoyed it very much. Sandler is very good as Henry as he plays it more close to the vest and genuine than much of his earlier comedic roles. He and Barrymore renew the chemistry they displayed in The Wedding Singer, another very funny movie.
The plot is a bit goofy and implausible at times, but the love story works and carries the film, as do the great Hawaiian locations. Rob Schneider and Sean Astin also do very funny turns as Henry's friend and Lucy's brother respectively.
It ain't Shakespeare, but 50 First Dates works as a romantic comedy that can be enjoyed again and again by both adults and kids.
