If you've ever felt alienated by the world around you, Ghost World will offer laughter, tears, and reassurance that you are definitely not alone. Adapted by Daniel Clowes and Crumb director Terry Zwigoff from Clowes's acclaimed graphic novel, the movie spends summer vacation with high school graduates Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlet Johansson). They inflict little tortures on the denizens of urban sprawl, wielding scathing irony as a defense against a "ghost world" full of pop-cultural lemmings and uncertain futures. But when Enid picks a 40-ish vintage-record collector (Steve Buscemi) as the target of her latest cruel prank, she finds herself unexpectedly attracted to him ("he's the opposite of everything I completely hate") and is forced to confront her own crushing loneliness. This combination of deadpan sarcasm and deeply compassionate humanity makes Ghost World a rare and delicate comedy, with an ambiguous ending that suggests tragedy or hope, depending on your own point of view. --Jeff Shannon

I was blown away when I watched this movie. I had never heard about the movie, but American Beauty is one of my favorite movies, so I knew Thora Birch. I had seen Scarlett Johansson in a couple of movies too, so I thought that this might be good. While watching, I discovered Steve Buscemi was in it. At that point, I really got interested. After the story got moving, I was hooked. This is a really underrated movie.

Wow, I passed this movie up on cable like 300 times because I thought it was about ghosts and connected it with that movie "13 Ghosts"

I'll check it out next time it's on Starz

I've seen it before, but it was awhile ago. I liked Buscemi in it...did a great job...

Funny to see Johannsen early on in a good movie.

I need to see this movie, Johannsen and Buscemi is all I need to justify watching it.

Is there a particular reason why this movie thread is stickied? Just curious.

Finally got a chance to see this movie - I hope Blockbuster still does their no late fees because I think I am about 2 days late in returning it. Oh well!

It moved kinda slow in the beginning, but it really picked up. I liked the sarcasm and wittyness. Steve, Thora and Scarlett did good jobs. Steve can totally play that nerd guy well.

Overall it was alright, but I dont think it's a movie I would want to see repeatedly.

And I liked the ending.

I've seen this before. I loved Bill Cosby in it. I cried when he died.
