Movie-A-Day #37: Drop Dead Gorgeous

This campy 1999 Mockumentary in the Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap) style looks at the small town conniving that goes on before a Beauty pageant.

Starring Kirstie Alley, Kristin Dunst, Ellen Barkin and Denise Richards.

Plot Summary: In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pagent is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won't be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.


While this movie will not appeal to everyone, I love this movie - it is just corny enough to make me laugh the entire movie. Definately not a high-brow movie, but just plain fun, with classic lines, and a great send-up of small town life.

One of my all-time favorite "fun" movies!

Excellent movie! A nice look at small-town life (and pretty damn accurate in most parts) and some nice scenery (Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards).

Watched this movie last night and laughed quite a bit. The cast is very nice, Richards, Dunst, Amy Adams, Brittany Murphy, etc.

I just watched it (based on the glowing recommendations here at ASFN). I thought it was hilarious. The characters were over-the-top just enough that they where funny without overdoing it. Kirsten Dunst is building quite a career. She has already been in 15+ noteworthy movies and she’s only 24.
