I like this movie a lot. I think it's great that it deals with domestic violence. Julia Roberts did a great job in this film. I remember when I was 7, my mom took me to this movie. I might have been a little too young to see it, but I remember learning a lot from this movie. It's now one of my faves.

Laura and Martin have been married for four years. They seem to be the perfect, happiest and most successful couple. The reality of their house- hold, however, is very different. Martin is an abusive and brutally obsessed husband. Laura is living her life in constant fear and waits for a chance to escape. She finally stages her own death, and flees to a new town and new identity. But when Martin finds out that his wife is not dead he will stop at nothing to find and kill her.

Wow. Seven? Could I be any older, lol?!?!

Love this movie. I still don't understand though why she flushed the stupid ring down the toilet instead of pawning it somewhere. Be smart, woman!

BTW..... I think the bozo that plays her new love interest was very weakly casted. He was a dork and it was totally unbelieveable that he could charm JR

I'm getting a mental image of Ryan dancing around the yard with a hose singing "When you're a Jet ..."

Honestly, he used to bug me, too. But for some reason, the last like... 10 times I've watched this movie, I really do adore him. He's got such a sweet genuine quality about him.

Plus, the scene where he lets her try on all those costumes and hats? ADORABLE!

I always watch this movie when it's on TBS or AMC.... The husband gives me the creeps like big time. I wouldn't be suprised if he is a real wife beater. Like when he yells her name "LAURA!!!!!".... it's just creepy.

The love interest dude just does nothing for me. I can't say I've seen him in too many other movie since so I take it I'm not alone

I saw this once way back in high school. My girlfriend at the time was a huge Julia Roberts fan, so I had to watch all of her movies.

I agree with Ryanwb about the husband, that guy really gave me the creeps.

I always find the trivia section at IMDB very interesting. Here’s one from there for this movie:

Star 'Julia Roberts' caused a controversy after she left Abbeville, South Carolina, where the film shot some location work. She said the place was "a living hell" and a "horribly racist" town and she would never return there again.

He played 1970's activist turned murderer Ira Einhorn in 1999's The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer.
