Ok, maybe this is just a LITTLE different than the earlier picks... :D

First of all, anybody who wants to post a  and hasn't seen the film, don't bother. This is a brilliant movie, believe it or not.

SYNOPSIS: When Farmer Hoggett falls down a well, his convelescance threatens the livelihood of the farm he has built so painstakingly. Money is scarce, and in order to come up with the funds needed to keep the bank from foreclosing, Mrs. Hoggett takes Babe into the city to enter him into another big contest. Unfortunately, what can go wrong, does...

Most people would look at this choice and laugh, but this movie is not your typical kids movie. While the first film was joyous and funny and a very good family film, this one is darker. It contains the same great family qualities, but to me, it appeared to be more "grown up", i.e. the situations were much more serious and even bordering on frightening (body cavity searches for drugs and drowning dogs to name a few).

Of course, the stars of the story are the animals, and the filmmakers do a terrific job of not only controlling the animals, but giving them distinct personalities as well. Buoyed by such voice talent as Steven Wright, Adam Goldberg, Hugo Weaving and even Naomi Watts, you never get the feeling that there is an actor speaking--it's always an animal.

The movie is simply charming--but in a twist, it also has a lot of black humor, and it is very well made. Highly recommended. Before he died, even Gene Siskel proclaimed Babe: Pig in the City as the best film of 1998...

I certainly wont critique this film; Ive never seen it. But I'm not inspired to either. Talking animals piss me off. Its as simple as that.

Sorry Chap, I might be talked into watching Majestic, but not this!!!

That's too bad. It's worth it. This isn't some Sesame Street movie. The problem with getting an audience for this movie is that people are usually too full of themselves to bring themselves to see it. And that's just sad.

Well, I figured this one wouldn't be too popular.

After this one, I have 3 more to go, and they will probably be 3 other movies that were underrated during 1998:

Tomorrow: Rosewood
Saturday: Breakdown
Sunday: Dark City

I've seen Dark City and I loved that movie - I'll save it till Sunday though!

Good pick

I really liked the first Babe (and Paulie, too - something about those talking animals) but I was afraid that this one would be a quick Hollywood cash-in on the success of the first. I'll have to rent it, now.

Dark City is one of my favorite movies -Breakdown has some nice scenes also where Kurt Russel goes agro. Always wanted to see Babe after I heard all the good pub about it - still it's ne of those I can just never find myself renting.

Recently watched it. I totally agree with what you're saying here. I also think it helped that the camera angle was often shot from the perspective of the animals.
