Cast:
Tom Hanks - Chuck Noland
Helen Hunt - Kelly Frears
Chris Noth - Jerry Lovett
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Producer: Tom Hanks, Jack Rapke, Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis

MOVIE DESCRIPTION:
An exploration of human survival and the ability of fate to alter even the tidiest of lives with one major event, Cast Away tells the story of Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a Federal Express engineer who devotes most of his life to his troubleshooting job. His girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) is often neglected by his dedication to work, and his compulsive personality suggests a conflicted man. But on Christmas Eve, Chuck proposes marriage to Kelly right before embarking on a large assignment. On the assignment, a plane crash strands Chuck on a remote island, and his fast-paced life is slowed to a crawl, as he is miles removed from any human contact. Finding solace only in a volleyball that he befriends, Chuck must now learn to endure the emotional and physical stress of his new life, unsure of when he may return to the civilization he knew before. Cast Away reunites star Hanks with director Robert Zemeckis, their first film together since 1994's Oscar-winning Forrest Gump. ~ Jason Clark, Rovi

Another 90% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes!

My Review: Another fantastic performance by Tom Hanks. He absolutely nailed this movie in every way. It amazed me how heavy he was and the weight he had to lose to play the character he needed to be to portray being stranded on a deserted Island for 4 years. I never thought a movie with such little dialogue could entertain me so much. Well this one delivered and then some. Another modern classic IMO.

The scene where he knocks his tooth out haunts me to this day.

Too bad Helen Hunt is in this. She sucks.

She is certainly not my favorite. But her part is extremely short and in no way takes away from the movie IMO.

I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. Hanks did a great job keeping the audience engaged when he was on the island solo.

It would have been a lot better if there were polar bears on the island.

PS - Oh, and perhaps a mysterious hatch in the middle of the jungle, too.

This is one of the most difficult things to do in movies--a good 75% of it is basically one guy. Not only does the director have to keep everything engaged, the actor really has to produce a spectacular performance. And Hanks certainly delivered. Unfortunately for him, he was in a pretty solid year for acting and he was only nominated and didn't win the Oscar.

Best Actor in a Leading Role
WINNER
Gladiator: Russell Crowe
NOMINEES
Before Night Falls: Javier Bardem
Cast Away: Tom Hanks
Pollock: Ed Harris
Quills: Geoffrey Rush

Probably didn't help that he'd won two Best Actors already, and no one has ever won three...

Not gonna lie, I get a bit sad when Wilson floats away.

He should have won #3 for his acceptance speech for Philadelphia which made several grown men sitting in my living room bust into tears. Most.moving.speech.ever.

Yeah, that was sad. But I think it was necessary. He had to part ways with his life on the island ... and Wilson was a big part of that life.

I've sometimes wondered how long I would survive on an island like that. I'm thinking not so long.

In a van...down by the river.
This is actually one of my favorite films Chap. The crash scene is incredible. The island scenes are so well done and acted.
There are very few films that tap into my um... emotional side  but i admit that the last act(which many viewers find stale and dragged out) gets me near tears every time.
