Okay, so I figured not many people would bother with Shakespeare, but I figured there would be a few at least...no intellectuals out there? (not meant as a backhanded insult) Oh well. Oh well. Had to put a Shakespearean production in there.

On that same note, I also had to include a Kevin Smith movie. I believe he is in his own right an artistic genius, and his masterpiece is, without a doubt, Chasing Amy.

This is the story of a pair of long-time friends, Banky and Holden, who create their own comic books who, through another friend, Hooper, are introduced to a fellow comic (pun intended), Alyssa, and later invite them to a bar to hang out together.

Of course, Holden (Played by Affleck) falls for Alyssa, but there's a problem: She's gay. He falls for a lesbian. What follows is nothing short of masterful, as she first brings the innocent Holden into the world of sexual enlightenment as a friend, then breaks what she holds dear to be with him when Holden expresses his undying love.

But there's a problem: Holden finds out about her past, and has trouble dealing with it. What follows....well, Silent Bob's (aka Kevin Smith's) ritual speech, which is quite profound, a lot of odd musings and a beautiful ending.

This is truly a classic film and some of the best writing I've ever seen performed. I do apologize for the grammer and spelling, however, since my brain is currently fried.

Clerks may have been funnier - but this is without a doubt Kevin Smith's best movie. In fact while allhis films have funny moments - this film stands out so much more because of the lack of stupidity found in his other films. His other films just feel like he's throwing comedic spaghetti against a wall and hoping that some of it sticks. Great movie - wish he would do more of this type of stuff and get away from the whole View Askew stuff - it's gotten old - Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was pathetic and nothing more than a massive ego stroker.

Sorry to disagree with ya Dave... :D

This and Dogma are probably my favorite Kevin Smith movies--I've never liked Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob. Chasing Amy is probably my favorite Kevin Smith movie.

Just out of curiosity Chap, where does Mallrats rank in all this? For me personally it goes a little something like this:

1.)Dogma
2.)Chasing Amy
3.)Mallrats
4.)Clerks
5.)J&SBSB

Jason Lee is by far my favorite actor of Kevin Smith fame and I love that scene where he draws the hypothetical question for Holden. That scene is just hilarious.

Another great pick, Stout!

This is definitely my favorite Kevin Smith movie. While I feel that Swingers is the best movie to show to somebody mending a broken heart, Chasing Amy is hands-down the WORST movie to show somebody getting over a lost love. Still one of my all time favorites, though.

I have the Mallrats DVD, one of the main guys on there is a HORRIBLE actor and some of the dialog is not exactly vernacular...but Jason Lee makes that movie great!

Chasing Amy is my second favorite Smith film. My favorite is Clerks. The first time I saw Clerks I could not stop laughing. I think being from New Jersey also was another reason I liked this movie.

Mallrats and Dogma are two of his movies I did not like.

Best scenes in this movie:

The Hooper/Banky "What's a Nubian?" scene from the convention....

The tracer scene

Banky and Hooper arguing over the fact if Archie was a queen or not

Alyssa in the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey - not funny - buy awfully good to look at :)

Agreed with all of the above, Stronso, but I have to go with Affleck's long speech in the car in the rain, professing his love. That is some of the best writing I have ever seen in a film.

Chasing Amy is my least favorite Kevin Smith movie. It whines a bit much for my taste.

For me it is:

#1 Dogma
#2 Clerks
#3 Jay and Silent Bob
#4 Mallrats
#5 Chasing Amy

Why does Jay and Silent Bob rank so high? Because I really can appreciate a good roast of Hollywood and people on the Internet that talk about movies ;)

I just watched it. I liked it, great dialogue. The only other Kevin Smith movies I’ve seen are Clerks and Clerks 2. I’ve only seen this once now, but I’d bet that this is one of those movies that you enjoy even more with repeated viewings. I’ll have to watch the other Kevin Smith movies now.
