This is my favorite Robin Williams movie, bar none, because not only do you get the brilliant silliness and marvelous comedy, but you get in my opinion his best acting performance as well.

Robin Williams is Professor Keating, a young teacher coming back to teach at his all-boys high school alma mater. This school is very exclusive, with pressure and difficulties which put the students under a tremendous amount of stress. Not only does Keating pierce this and get to the heart of the student's feelings, he brings them true knowledge of a portion of the arts, which leads them to form the 'Dead Poets Society'.

This movie also has a telling dark side as well, as the events that unfold represent the truly abhorent side of parenting pressure, and also the dangerous repression of the arts in society. Some individuals don't like the arts, and that's fine for them. It's when they try to force their disdain on others, especially trying to repress their own children's feelings, that problems occur.

At any rate, a great, great film, well-written and well-acted, that ranks up there with some of my favorites.

O Captain, my Captain!!

Excellent flick - Robin Williams is great - good touch of comedy, but not overdone.

Sad thing is that there are still many who feel like some of the parents today....

That is sad...I know it's a movie and I've seen it a million times, but whenever that part comes up, I just want to start strangling that father...UUUUUUGH!

Yeah, me too...I always hope, no matter how lame it is, that the dad wont do that to him.

I have to say, this movie makes me tear up everytime I watch. So moving.

Great pick.

Excellent pick stout - I love this movie. This movie was my favorite for a long time until The Usual Suspects finally came out.

I still have a hard time watching Kurtwood Smith play the dad on That 70's Show. Sometimes his character acts like a jerk on there as well and I just want to throttle him - just shows how good of an actor he is by getting a rise out of me.

Great movie for Robin Williams and I loved the "phone call from God" scene - hilarious. :)

You say that like it doesn't happen for nearly every flick you watch, chickflickski... :D

Seriously - One of my all-time favorite movies. Carpe Diem!

Although it is very upsetting when you rewatch it and it unfolds the same way. I'm kinda like Mike..."It'll be different this time." But it's not.

Great film.

"...the name's Nuwanda!" :D

"But I remember crying at the end of The Dirty Dozen...when Lee Marvin throws that grenade down the shaft.....stop, it's just too much..."

What movie is that from?

I recently watched this one. I had seen bits and pieces many years ago, but it was nice to finally watch the entire movie. Wow, excellent from top to bottom.

It's hard to imagine anyone else playing Keating, but apparently Liam Neeson and Dustin Hoffman were considered.

I agree with what was mention earlier about the humor. It had just the right amount and it was well placed. The phone call from god was pretty funny.

Odd. As I clicked on this thread I was watching the Friends episode where this movie is mentioned.
