Aliens is one of the few cases of a sequel that far surpassed the original. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley, who awakens on Earth only to discover that she has been hibernating in space so long that everyone she knows is dead. Then she is talked into traveling (along with a squad of Marines) to a planet under assault by the same aliens that nearly killed her. Once she gets there, she finds a lost little girl who triggers her maternal instincts--and she discovers that the company has once again double-crossed her, in hopes of capturing one of the aliens to study as a military weapon. Directed and written by James Cameron, this is one of the most intensely exciting (not to mention intensely frightening) action films ever, with a large ensemble cast that includes Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, and Michael Biehn. Weaver defined the action woman in this film and walked away with an Oscar nomination for her trouble
I wasn't sure what to put up for my last movie but I finally decided to use my favorite SciFi Flick of all time. I agree with the editors comment about this being one of the few cases of a sequel being better than the original.
The special affects are awesome. The action is non stop, always exciting and thrilling at the same time. Which constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Then toss in all of the classic one liners. Bill Paxton's character had to have at least a dozen alone in this movie. Everytime I see this movie I die laughing at most of them.
The Aliens were incredible. They still scare the crap out of me. However just as incredible were all the high tech equipment used by the humans. I was at an Army trade show a few years back and one company had a gun that had a digital read out of the number of rounds left in the magazine and a grenade launcher. I imediately thought to myself, ALIENS! The ships and vehicles used in the movie were cool also.
There isn't much not to like about this movie. It recently was playing in the theaters and I didn't get a chance to see it. I'm still kicking myself for missing that.
