Released in 1987, director Paul Verhoeven's American breakthrough film RoboCop is an exceedingly black comedy, science fiction and crime thriller. Set in Detroit sometime in the near-future, the plot centers around Murphy, a policeman (Peter Weller) killed in the line of duty, who the department decides to resurrect as a half-robot supercop. The robocop is indestructible, and within a matter of weeks he has removed crime from the streets of Detroit. However, his human side is tortured by his past and wants revenge on the thugs who killed him. Though the violence in RoboCop is quite graphic, it is balanced by some very cutting social satire and terrific action, which is often augmented by outstanding stop-motion special effects.

I have to say that this has been one of my favorite sci-fi/action films ever since I saw it back in '87. The satire and commentary on the corporate culture are exceedingly funny. Great action sequences between Murphy and the criminals of Detroit. This film also has a great trio of bad guys in Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith and Miguel Ferrer as well.

I really enjoy the rapport between Murphy and his new partner (Nancy Allen) as Murphy struggles to get back in touch with his human side and remember who he was/is. Very entertaining movie.

I thought this movie was great the first and second and third time I watched it.

But I watched it again as an adult over a decade later and it really did nothing for me. In fact it left me wondering why I liked it so much as a teenager?

I remember seeing this when I was around 10. I'll have to watch it again to see if I like it or not. Someone told me they are making a new robocop movie, anyone else heard of this?

Any scene where a bad guy is splattered across a windshield is okay with me

Really liked this movie. Even if everytime I watch it now I can't help but compare Boddicker with Red Forman (how funny would this movie have been if Boddicker kept calling Robocop a *******?) The Ed-209 kept stealing the show for me.

I recently watched it with my boys (18 & 15). They thought this movie was ridiculous. However, they like to rip me for my love of 80s movies. I think a lot of the satire was lost on them.

I must admit though, it wasn't as cool as I remembered since seeing it in 8th grade. I don't remember it being so campy. And the scenes with Ed-209 were cringe worthy, especially on the stairs. Had some great 80s lines though.
