MoviePass launches movie theater subscription for $9.95 per month
NEW YORK — MoviePass launched a monthly movie theater subscription service that costs $9.95.

The fee of $9.95 covers the cost of one movie ticket every day for a month. MoviePass is good at several participating theater chains, including Regal, Cinemark and AMC.

The catch is the company will sell the data it gathers from customers. It’s not clear what data the company will collect and sell.

The pass does not include IMAX or 3-D screenings.

AMC might be getting out, so keep that in mind.

One of my employees uses it and says it's great.

Nothing. $9.99 per month. One non 3-D movie per day.

AMC is a part of the deal and now they are hating the idea. They should love it as long as it doesn't force people willing to pay full price out.

It's all a smokescreen. Theaters make next to nothing when it comes to ticket sales. They make their living off of concessions.

Yep. They do make more money off of 3D sales but that is peanuts compared to markup on concessions. It's ridiculous. That's why I find it odd AMC is putting up such a stink about the entire thing.

When I worked at a theatre as a teen and was in management, they made 30% of their revenue off of ticket sales.

Was the other 70% concessions? If so, I imagine more visitors buying concessions would make more money than keeping the 30% in ticket sales.

At the same time though, I am that guy that carries in his own snacks and doesnt buy anything at concessions and I bet there are a ton of me out there, especially those who take advantage of plans like this. I have no interest in soda or popcorn or candy, I just bring water and trail mix.

It was like 67% concessions and 3% other.

Long enough ago to not want to say. It has been close to 20 years now.

I know the industry has changed quite a bit since, but it is still interesting.
