Moving the Draft to another city in the near future?

This is the last year that the NFL has a contract with Radio City Music Hall in NYC.

I think it would be a great idea to move the draft around to various NFL cities each year. But how do you think they should decide on the city. A lottery, have cities lobby for it like they do the super bowl, or my favorite idea I never even thought of and this idea does come from PFT - It should be held in the city of the NFL team that has the #1 pick. I just think it would be the most fair way of doing it, and would be a nice story line each year with the home town being there to applaud or boo their #1 pick.

Keep it in NY. The draft is the only time that the largest city in the US is the focus of the NFL. Use this to make sure that that NY treats the occasion correctly but there is no reason to make it a circus.

I am a hard core draftnik yet have no interest in going to New York to see it live. You spend five hours waiting for the thing to start, then you get 20 seconds of action, followed by 15 minutes of waiting again.

Now -- if it were rotating around and in Phoenix -- it would be a huge Cardinal themed event (for the folks in attendance) -- there would probably be enough going on as to make the time pass quickly.

Rotating around cities would be great, but I really like the Las Vegas idea. It would be a huge party and you can gamble between the picks while waiting. LV would get a huge turnout for it.

It ought to rotate, having it in NYC every year is lame. Its unfair to fans of the other 30 teams who will never be able to see it in person w/ out a huge trip.

Rotating it to the city who has the first pick sounds good in theory, but is probably impractical. It would mean trying to rent large auditorium facilities and convention type areas (since I believe there's a lot of NFL meetings and what not that go on and what not) and there probably wouldn't be enough time to do that between the end of the season and the draft.

Some cities however probably wouldn't have the facilities to host the event (i.e. Green Bay), so they'd probably just be up the creek. I'd assume you'd need not only a good size Auditorium/Hall (Wikipedia says Radio City Music Hall holds almost 6K) as well as nearby convention facilities and obviously a lot of hotel space.

Downtown Phoenix would be an awesome host for the draft. The actual event could be held in Symphony Hall. The beautiful new convention center could be used for whatever meetings and business goes on, and for the various 'War Rooms', etc. If the Symphony Hall isn't big enough (it seats just over 2K), Dodge theater could certainly host it, as it holds over 5K. Though its not as close to the Convention Center, so it may not be quite as convenient.

The only downside of rotating the draft is, it wouldn't come to Phoenix as often as I'd like If it rotated between say 20 cities, it would be a pretty rare event. But on the plus side, that would make it even more special and ensure high attendance.

Also, from a selfish/greedy point of view, as someone who works in the TV industry in town, I'd probably be able to get work during it and make money- hooray!

Why not rotate it? It's become such a big event, it will sell out in every city it goes to. Every NFL team's home city can handle it.They handle a football game every weekend so why would basically a small convention be a big deal,logistics-wise?

Do cities like Green Bay have big enough auditoriums for instance? I dont know if they do. I dont know if its a 'small' convention, I have no clue how many people end up attending, but I bet its a pretty big number, GB may not have convention facilities big enough.

I agree. I'm arguing the draft SHOULDN'T go to Green Bay. It should rotate between a bunch of cities that have the capacity to hold the event. It could even be limited to 'destination' or resort type places or just warm weather cities,. I.E. Phoenix, Miami, Jacksonville, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, maybe Charlotte. But the more the merrier I say, the larger the rotation is, the bigger deal it will be for each city when they host it.

It's not that bad here this time of year. Of course we all just went through the long winter so maybe it just seems nice.

But let me ask another question, would you go to Flagstaff in April? The reason I ask it that Flag is colder then Wisconsin and on average gets about 20 to 30 more inches of snow a year,

I'm confused, what does Flagstaff have to do with anything? Why would the NFL be in Flagstaff ever other than for Cardinals training camp?
