On Monday night in Utah, Detroit Red Wings coach Todd McLellan—his team's season potentially hanging in the balance, as it is every night at this moment in the season—turned to Petr Mrazek in net. However, just 98 seconds into the game, Mrazek was forced to exit due to injury, and the Red Wings had to turn to back-up Alex Lyon.

As Utah forward Dylan Guenther clipped him driving to the net, Mrazek made the tricky point blank backhand but stayed down, in visible pain, prompting officials to blow the play dead as Detroit rushed back up ice and sending Lyon into the game. Mrazek exited having faced just the one shot.

Red Wings Unravel for 6–3 Loss in Vegas

Injury Update: Erik Gustafsson's Season Likely Over

Lyon had not faced game action for the first time since Mar. 6, coincidentally also against the Utah Hockey Club. In that outing, Lyon made 15 saves in a 4–2 loss. His initial introduction did not go well for Detroit. A minute after Lyon's entrance, Red Wings forward Tyler Motte earned a tripping minor, and Utah scored on the ensuing power play, none other than Guenther, making it 1–0 for the home team with 3:46 played.
