Robin Williams to Return as Mrs. Doubtfire
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
November 19, 2004

A sequel to the 1993 hit comedy Mrs. Doubtfire is in the works at Fox 2000. Robin Williams is in early talks to reprise the role of Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire and resume producing duties with Marsha Williams, says The Hollywood Reporter. Bonnie Hunt is also in talks to write the film.

The original, directed by Chris Columbus (first two "Harry Potter" films), earned $219.2 million domestically and $222 million overseas for a massive worldwide total of $441.2 million, or the 53rd highest-grossing film ever. Mrs. Doubtfire received two Golden Globe awards in 1994, one for best picture (comedy/musical) and one for Williams as best actor in a comedy/musical. The film also won an Oscar for best makeup.

In Mrs. Doubtfire, Daniel Hillard learns his ex-wife needs a housekeeper, so he applies for and lands the job disguised as Mrs. Doubtfire, a devoted British nanny. The masquerading Daniel creates a whole new life with his entire family.

i think i'm more surprised that Robin would agree to return to the role than i am that they are making a sequel...

someone's got to put a stop to the sequels and the re-fakes.

hollywood is starting to get pathetic - very rarely anything original comes out of it anymore.

i think i'm going to start watching more independent films...

Maybe they promised him it could be dark and twisted like his latest string of films...

Maybe he REALLY changes into Mrs. Doubtfire!

Or maybe they are doing another retread. :sigh:

Mrs. Doubtfire 2 Talk
Source: Zap2it
March 5, 2005

It seemed like a for sure thing...though Robin Williams is now having some doubts. Fox announced in November that a sequel to 1993's Mrs. Doubtfire was in the works with Bonnie Hunt writing a script, but Williams tells Zap2it he questions whether it will happen.

"No, I don't think so," Williams says. "But they're trying to write it. I think if [Bonnie Hunt] can do it right, it'll be OK. If they don't do it right, it's not worth doing it."

The original, directed by Chris Columbus (first two "Harry Potter" films), earned an impressive $441.2 million worldwide.

Hey, if there's a chance to make another 500 million based on name alone, you better believe they'll do it.

Just watched doubtfire this eve with the kiddos. Not sure how they'd sequel it. R. Williams was great in this movie. It's my understanding he was only required to stay on script for the first 2 scenes. Then most of the remaining movie was adlib. Can't imagine trying to keep a straight face during his antics. Especially during the "frosting on his face" scene. That was all adlib. Comic Genius.
