Will Michigan State basketball take care of business and advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament? Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal is here to provide his thoughts on this big-time matchup on Friday.
Michigan State will battle Oregon on Friday afternoon with a trip to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on the line. The Spartans received a double-bye in the conference tournament, while Oregon needed a win over Indiana on Thursday to advance to this matchup.
Michigan State knocked off Oregon in the lone regular season meeting between these two teams. The Spartans needed a heroic effort from star freshman Jase Richardson to overcome a double-digit deficit in the game and beat the Ducks.
Both teams have been super hot since that first meeting, with Michigan State winning seven of their eight games since (all of their wins being Quad 1 victories). Oregon hasn't lost since that game, currently riding an eight-game winning streak into this matchup.
So what does Couch think of this matchup between Michigan State and Oregon? Well, he is actually leaning towards the Ducks in this matchup and ultimately expects a tight game throughout. Here's a little bit of his analysis for this matchup:
"It took a great second half by MSU and a herculean effort from Jase Richardson for the Spartans to beat Oregon at home in early February. That 29-point performance was Richardson's first start — because of illness to Jeremy Fears Jr. that day — and was a real coming-out party for Richardson as MSU's go-to guy. Both teams have played their best basketball of the season since... This is a talented and capable Oregon team that's no longer traipsing the country, but instead settled down in one spot with hopes of making a statement."
