i thought about what the Crads draft could look like if they just went all defense the entire draft. It's not too bad.

1-Alan Branch-DT
2-Charles Johnson-DE
3-David Harris-LB
4-Daymeion Hghes-CB
5-C.J Gaddis-DB
7-John Abbatte-LB

that would accelerate a switch to the 3-4 when you add 6 players that could play in that scheme.

If we draft Alan Branch with the #5, I will puke. Seriously.

A few months ago I wouldn't have had a problem with Branch, but I keep hearing guys like Kiper (bah! and yet I listen) saying that the tape doesn't grade will for Branch.

Any insight?

At the end of the season, based on game tape -- Branch was talked about at a top 5 guy

then the workouts came, and I have seen a bunch of mixed reports -- one outfit said his 40 time (FWIW as a DT) was great, but others said he looked "sluggish"

He is sliding as a result. I am always skeptical of guys who shoot up boards due to combine workouts, so I guess I should be okay with Branch.

BTW-- Just to add to the swithing to a 3-4 discussion, Mike Mayock on the NFL network noted that Branch is the perfect 3-4 nose.

Branch has all of the physical tools, but he has motor and motivation issues.

The fact that he plays the position that I feel that we are the deepest (besides WR) is another big factor. We could trade down into the teens and still have a very good shot at Branch. I no longer feel he is top 10 material.

My All "Defensive" Draft:

Rd.1: "Well, we traded back thinking we could get Brown, but he got selected much sooner than we anticipated. No, no, it wasn't panic that caused us to reach for the T that was projected to go in the third. We liked him and had him rated very highly. Get off my back."

Rd 2: "Look, it's been a busy morning and we're all tired. No, I didn't fall asleep, I was resting my eyes. Stop being so critical."

Rd. 3: "I've been researching the relative merits of choosing a name from a hat and throwing darts at the draft board. By a large margin the dart method worked better. Will you give it a rest already, Kiper?"

Rd. 4: "I thought we were done on Saturday, so we were caught a little off-guard when they called us back in on Sunday. We'll be more prepared for the next pick. Back off, Mayock."

Rd. 5: "Oh, I thought this was the pick we gave to NE. Maybe they want this one, too. We're not really ready yet. Jeez, you think you can do better?"

Rd. 6: "This is the pick for NE? Phew."

Rd. 7: "Look, I'm the professional. I know what I'm doing. No, I DO realize that a 14 year old punter isn't eligible for the NFL...yet. But watch, this guy is going to be a star. See, I told you I knew what I was doing."

Is Daymeion Hughes really considered a 4th round pick at this point? On The Huddle Report's Value Board, he's listed as 91st. I guess that works out. Man, whoever picks him up is going to get a Nathan Vasher-type value.

He didn't perform well at the combine. I think it was mostly in the drills where you have to have lateral movement. I think he slipped and fell in a couple of the drills.

I don't know how much this really affects his draft status because a t 6'6" and 340 lbs. he shouldn't have the lateral movement of smaller guys. He is really a guy that is going to eat up double teams inside and from what I've seen he can't be moved out of there and can grab guys with one hand and bring them down.

In the end some think his performance was a problem and others think that he isn't going to be chasing down running backs from behind anyway. He's going to occupy blockers and linebackers are going to chase down ball carriers.

I agree 100%. Hughes is one of the best CB prospects in the draft. A classic example of what the combine can do to ones stock- He was a sure fire 1st rounder before the combine and now is a 3rd to 4th rounder. If we could get him in the 3rd I'd be very happy

I agree. Branch seems like he would be a good fit at NT. So would Adams as a 3-4 LB.

i liked Chase Pittman also but, i don't if he was hurt or not, i read where he ran like a mid 5.4-5.5 40. That's very slow.Kind of like when Kyle Young ran about 5.5 and is now unlikely to be drafted after being touted as a possible first rounder prior to the season.

Branch would be a 3-4 end. He is too tall for a NT. His knees would be toast by mid season. Tank Tyler is the perfect NT.

branch is 6'6, 320. plus he is more of a pass rusher. i dont know how anyone could see him in a 3-4 defense playing nose tackle. he would be a great 4-3 DT though
