My mouse is spasmodic

Lately my mouse is jumping all over the screen. If I try to move it in one direction, it will take off to the corner of the screen. I can still get around alright, but it sure is a pain. Any ideas what it could be and how I can correct the problem.

Is it time for a new mouse or some kind of virus?

I've ran my ad-aware program and that didn't help.

Neh, the ball and rollers probably need to be cleaned out.

Actually, I've got one of those optical mice(?)

Do you have a mouse pad? Sometimes if you have your mouse on a certain type of wood, it does that.

Try putting it on a folder or something and see what happens.
