Dear Microsoft, It's nice that you put a 3 year warranty on a product that you caused to be defective. Only problem is that mine is 4 years old.

I finally got the ring of death. So sad, especially with madden coming out soon and my inability to buy a new one.

Hmm. I also heard that Gamestop at one point was buying these consoles for around $40 or $50. You could try that if you are planning on purchasing another.

It happened last night. Signed on, was about to watch some netflix and it froze.

I don't remember how many rings I had that turned red once, but I removed the hard drive and then plugged it back in and it's worked fine since.

MS asks everyone to do that before sending their boxes in for repair.

I understand your frustration. However I would have to say that 299.00 for three years worth of enjoyment is a pretty damned good deal. Hard to really argue that in 3 years you didn't get your moneys worth. Especially if you are a true gamer.

There are online guides for fixing or attempting to fix these units on your own, right? Worth a shot if it's already out of warranty.

That's what you get if you go online and set up repair. Quick, easy and done in less than a week. Honestly, the FASTEST and best support I've ever had. I was ready to be pissed when my LAUNCH unit finally threw up the rings of death after 4 years, but they turned that stuff around so fast, and without paying more than the $99 (you know how most places are..+$shipping, +$return shipping, total $129 or something) plus the month of xbox live off was just great. Wonderful support, IMO.

Just ordered the 250 GB wireless xbox for the living room, and the launch unit is going to the den as the kids' play and movie device. This is in prep for the Kinect coming from Santa this xmas (already preordered, with the Dance game, the animals game and the sports game as well).

I used to be a hardcore sony guy...PS2 was my nirvana..but once I adopted the xbox a crack formed...the xbox 360 completely overtook sony and I've never even wanted a PS3 for a second.

I will add for him...abomb's is a launch unit as well. We camped out to get them together. Ahhh, good times. Smoking a hookah with weird strangers and playing poker while waiting to drop a ton of money on a game system (while abomb slept in the tent...poohsay).

I swear you guys jinxed me...My xbox went dead yesterday..Three rings of death..Dead...Good thing I paid the 39.99 replacement plan threw bestbuy...Took my xbox in and they gave me a brand new slim one 250gb hard drive awesome..for for 3 dollars out of my pocket...

This really is the best way to go. Most of the other warranty contracts say you have to send it in, they will attempt to repair etc. The best buy, you just bring your box and exchange. That is what I did when my launch 360 finally died. It was simple and quick.

These problems of the earlier unit suck but they have since been long resolved. I too was a Sony Playstation nut (1 & 2) but bottom line is XBOX 360 has the better game library hands down and that is why I have stuck with it.

Not sure if I will ever get a PS3 (no real reason too) unless I want to pick up another Blu Ray player.

I think it is well worth it for 39.99...I couldnt believe it..Walked in with a 2 year old xbox walked out with the new slim...Its so quiet and has a 250gb hard drive..The new xbox has a replacement plan for 79.99..I have a month to decide if I want to do it...

Gee I agree the ps3 is awesome,but it cant compete with xbox live..thats imo..Maybe someday I will go back to Sony but I just love my xbox...
