The Nashville Predators have been eliminated from a playoff spot with their 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday.
Nashville now has 62 points and a record of 27-37-8. With 10 games remaining, the Predators can earn a maximum of 82 points by the end of the season. The Blues, by earning two points in the win, now have 85 points and hold the second wild card spot.
"It's extremely disappointing," Filip Forsberg said after Thursday's loss. "We play this game to win. It's not something we are happy about, it's very disappointing."
This is the second time in three seasons the Predators have missed the playoffs. In 2022-23, they missed the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons, which resulted in the team moving on from coach John Hynes. Prior to that, the Predators had made the playoffs eight straight seasons.
With the way this season has unfolded, the Predators have been out of playoff contention since January. Thursday's result making the elimination official wasn't all that surprising for many players.
"It felt like we were eliminated a long time ago, honestly," forward Ryan O'Reilly said after the game.
The Predators have 10 games remaining in the season, starting with another home game this Saturday (5:30 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network) against the Vegas Golden Knights.
