Drew Titsworth turned in a memorable first career start for the Clemson Tigers on Friday night.
The sophomore right-hander threw six shutout innings in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Louisville, holding the Cardinals to three hits. He allowed no walks and struck out three batters. Titsworth's first start came after 13 appearances in relief this season and 19 in his freshman season in 2024.
"Obviously, Drew Titsworth should get all the headlines, being his first career start and going six scoreless against a really good offensive team," Clemson coach Erik Bakich said.
On Monday, he did. Titsworth was named ACC Pitcher of the Week by D1 Baseball (subscription required). Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney was named the outlet's ACC Player of the Week.
In 14 games this season, Titsworth is 4-0 with a 2.86 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 28 1/3 innings. He has 32 strikeouts to seven walks. Opponents are batting .214 off the Frankenmuth, Mich., native.
Clemson rose to No. 2 in the major Top 25 rankings Monday, including the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The Tigers host the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs in a top 10 matchup Tuesday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
