The Nationals already lead the MLB in runners thrown out at home.

he's going to make a great head coach, enough said about that.
That obviously remains to be seen. There will certainly be more said about it as time goes by.

Matty may get off to a dynamic start as Manager but, just as Bob Melvin and Kirk Gibson (whose personalities are as introverted as his), his flaws as the figurehead will probably show as time goes by.

Being 3B Coach is not the training ground to manage a team. It would have been in Matty's best interest if he had experienced the job as a Minor League manager first.

It will be curious to see if Williams will carry the D'backs Brenly/Melvin/Gibson approach of 130 different batting orders each season to the Nats.

If so, there could ultimately be grumblings from the first-line players just as have been reported in Phoenix. And on the East Coast, scrutiny from the Press and fans will be greater. Matty has never experienced that.

Indeed, Matt Williams success as a first time Manager is not a foregone conclusion. It will be interesting to look back in two years and see how it has progressed.

Williams has been extremely loyal to this organization from the start. I wish him nothing but the best in Washington.

I pretty much agree with all of this, especially the incessant line up shuffling.

He managed the BayBears for about half a season when Bulter has his stroke.

OK, I'll revise that to ...Being an interim Minor League manager for a short time, followed by being a 3B coach, is not a substantial training ground to being a Manager at the highest level in the world -- of an MLB team.

And how much coaching experience did Mike Matheny bring with him?
