Third-ranked Montana remained undefeated with a 21-16 victory over Northern Arizona Saturday at the Walkup Skydome.
Montana's Lex Hilliard rushed for 146 yards and a key third quarter touchdown that proved to be the winning points. Quarterback Cole Bergquist went 14-for-24 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Alex Henderson rushed for 126 yards and touchdown for the Lumberjacks. Alex Watson had 11 catches for 107 yards.
Montana scored twice in the third quarter to seal the road victory. Bergquist led UM on a 12-play, 80-yard drive to start the half for a 14-6 lead. After Robbie Dehaze hit his third field goal of the game, UM scored again on another 80-yard drive for 21-9 advantage with Hilliard running in from five yards out.
NAU scored its only touchdown of the game with 4:42 left in the fourth quarter on a 8-yard run by Henderson. But the Lumberjacks never got the ball back again as the UM ran out the clock.
After a scoreless first quarter, Montana put together the first scoring drive of the game capped by a 3-yard pass from Bergquist to Ryan Bagley. NAU added two field goals as schools entered the lockerroom with the Grizzlies leading 7-6.
The Lumberjacks travel to Montana State next week.
